KJHburg
this is very good news as Charlotte based Nucor has only one plant in NC now and this will be the 2nd one. from the Triad Biz Journal ""Nucor Corp., along with N.C. Department of Commerce Secretary Michelle Baker Sanders, will announce plans this afternoon for a $350 million rebar steel mill in Lexington. The mill will be designed to produce 430,000 tons of rebar annually and is expected to employ 200 people when it opens in 2024. Construction, which will begin after final permits and regulatory approvals are obtained for the location of U.S. 64, will involve about 500 temporary workers. The N.C. Economic Investment Committee held a specially called meeting at 11 a.m. today in Raleigh to approve a Job Development Investment Grant for the project. More details are expected at a formal announcement at Davidson-Davie Community College's Rittling Conference Center. "We are very excited to grow our steel business here in our home state of North Carolina,” says Leon Topalian, Nucor CEO, in advance of that event. “The corridor between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta is one of the fastest-growing regions in our nation, and new federal spending for infrastructure will further increase demand for rebar in the region.” In December, Charlotte-based Nucor (NYSE: NUE) confirmed it was looking in six Southeast states for a location for its third mill dedicated to producing rebar, which is used to reinforce concrete in the construction of roads, buildings, bridges and other structures. Outside North Carolina, the company looked at sites in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. This will be Nucor’s second mill in North Carolina. The company has a steel plate mill, Nucor Steel Hertford, that was built in 1999 and employs about 300 people."" https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2022/04/07/nucor-to-build-350m-rebar-steel-mill-in-nc.html

Per the link below, there will be "at least 180 jobs" but the average wage will be just shy of $100k. As usual, the median will be lower but this is still an excellent overall development. https://governor.nc.gov/news/press-releases/2022/04/07/governor-cooper-announces-nucor-will-create-180-jobs-davidson-county
KJHburg
Nucor pays extremely well for its jobs. they are hard jobs but they do compensate and they have little turnover too. This will ripple through the Davidson County economy.
