Oh! So they are filling the whole block then?

I was on my way to the Pinery yesterday and the view from I-4 is pretty substantial.  This thing is flying up.

Here is a reference to what also has been proposed for this site from 2006. It is a whole block design also. It looks like it would have gobbled up the parcel Central Station is currently on.

I looked back through this thread to about mid 2020 when we were calling this project (still Golden Sparrow at the time) dead.

I found a few renderings of the current incarnation of it on their FB page.

A few of them I've seen here.

This one....

And this one....

And this one....

But I had not seen this one yet....

It's this last one that made the biggest impression on me.

A street level view looking east on Livingston.

This view, moreso than any other I've seen, really suggests that this building, when completed, will really transform DTO in terms of creating the kind of urban, cosmopolitan feel for pedestrians, that we have been hoping to achieve for so long,

Zoom in on this rendering to the point that it looks like what you'd see if you were there walking along Livingston.

You really get a sense of the feel this project will create at street level.

I really dislike the 17 story building of this project. Looks so out of place.

Almost like an afterthought.

Or a storage shed for the big tower.

I wonder if the residents of the short tower will develop feelings of inferiority toward the people who live in the tall tower.

I wonder if there will be rampant cases of tower envy amongst the small tower residents.

Will the people in the tall tower snub the people in the short tower and refuse to associate with them?

Will they stand on their balconies and shout insulting, derogatory comments down at the short tower people?

Throw their garbage and other things down from their balconies onto them?

It could make for some very entertaining gossip for the rest of us.

I remember this design was roundly panned here at UPO.

...I believe the Crescent Central people have tall tower envy...heh, it would have been funny if Society was black like the Hancock Center.  Now THAT would be funny since Crescent is white.

Poor little CC's tower envy will be doubly bad, with both Society towers to live in the shadow of.

But their diminutive stature will at least enable the short Society tower residents to hold onto a modicum of pride and self respect by not being the runt.

But it will always be overshadowed by the knowledge of their taller neighbors' superiority over both, as "the big kid on the block".

...and I think I just saw Eddie Grant walking down Orange Ave...I mean Electric Ave...

Some interesting facts about that song that I never knew until now....

"Electric Avenue is a shopping area in the Brixton section of London, named because is was the first street in the area to get electric lights. Brixton was the setting for riots between police and protesters in 1981, which Grant refers to in the opening line, "Down in the street there is violence.""

Why are they only working on one half of the base? Aren't they going to build the entire base in phase one?

I think they are working on 2/3 of the base. The part underneath to big tower and the center section. They'll probably build the part of the base that's underneath the small tower when they build that tower, Or rather IF they build that tower. This being Orlando and all.

We should probably start asking what could be built with the space that never gets used by this project...
