Windgate Art & Design District / South Fayetteville

Haven't seen any mention of the 'Windgate Art & Design District' in development for south Fayetteville which was announced in December following a charitable gift of $40 million from the Windgate Foundation of Siloam Springs.   The district is planned to have buildings for classrooms, labs, studios and gallery spaces that will become an artistic touchpoint for the entire community.  This is on the heels of the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation of Bentonville donating $120 million to the University of Arkansas Art Department which will evolve into the School of Art.  This gift is expected to help position the school of art as a nationally recognized center of art excellence and artistic hub for this part of the country.

Today the architects for the district were announced with HGA of Minneapolis and MAHG Architecture of Fort Smith teaming together.  Initial designs are expected this fall and construction is planned to begin fall of 2019.

I would have put this under the 'University of Arkansas' projects but this development is broader than the university and will impact the entire NWA region.

The Anthony family of Bearden are donating $7.5 million to support construction of a new $15 million materials innovation center in the 'Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design'.

The Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation will be built in the 'Windgate Art and Design District' and the 5-story, 50,000 sq ft building will include studios, seminar and conference rooms, faculty offices and housing for visiting faculty - along with a small auditorium and public exhibition space.
