Bill duPont (yes, he was related to THE duPonts,) got tied up in fallout from the late '80's - early '90's S&L debacle. He became an investor with law partners Swann & Haddock, which at the time was one of the most powerful local law firms. When American Pioneer (which they controlled) crashed and burned in the S&L crisis (duPont Centre anchor The First, F.A, also folded, but they were ensnared by bad regulatory maneuvers and had always been run conservatively, unlike high-flying AP), soft-spoken duPont returned to Lexington, KY and his beloved horses.

Norton Herrick could not be more different than Rich DeVos and would have been a much better fit for the values Orlando has come to embrace.

BTW, if you happen to be thankful for the Princeton St. extension which made access between Pine Hills and I4 much easier, you can thank Bill duPont. His proposed industrial park (which now features the closest Walmart to College Park) is what led to the road being built.

They match up much better to Philly who has limited depth. Philly has three previous Magic players who could come back to haunt us (Tobias Harris, Reddick and Johnathan Simmons). Magic could still fall to 8th (unlikely) in which case they face the Bucks.

Stan has done absolutely nothing since the Dwight trade. I get painting Dwight as the traitor and villain in this story, but keeping him over SVG was 100% the correct choice. Literally no one could have predicted Dwight would have crippling back issues that would render him effectively ineffectual. Either way, you don’t keep a coach over a top-5 player in any scenario. 

Since being fired by the Magic, Stan Van Gundy went to Detroit and averaged 38 wins per year over 4 year and missed the playoffs 3 out of 4 seasons. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a decent coach, but Dwight at the time was an elite player. Between Dwight and Stan, it was an easy call.

And by the way, anyone calling this season a failure simply doesn’t watch or know NBA basketball. Orlando was projected to win around 25 wins and completely shattered those expectations. Many NBA pundits were expecting Orlando to get swept but they won a game, again shattering expectations. I get 7 seasons of losing will jade people but dang, this “what have you done for me lately?” attitude is shameful.
