Vantage South End - 1100 S Tryon

walk by today of the south tower of the two tower Vantage Southend.  

This second building seems to be going up a bit quicker than the first. Maybe it just seems that way. I remember they used a mobile crawler crane to erect the steel for the first one. This one they have a tower crane set up. Obviously they had room for the crawler to begin with and now they don’t. Even with the room, I wonder why they didn’t just use a tower crane on the first one? I guess cost.

Yes it costs more.  Tower Cranes takes longer to install and the operators are paid more.  Crawler Crane is faster.

Spectrum has and continues to do a great job with this project.  Until I got close up I did not know there were so many balconies in the office building.   and that hotel when built will have a STELLAR view of the skyline. Plus lots of retail spots around the parking deck.  (here is a tenant that would serve the neighborhood and even the office workers a 7-11 or a gas-less urban QT or even the DGX, the Dollar General urban format store)  The office tenants will love it too.   from all angles today. 

why not a few condos atop that hotel?  I am sure a couple would and could sell.

Every time I see photos from @Mgelbach's drone, I start humming my own lyrics to "If I Only Had a Brain Drone":

(Please forgive my lameness. The woman who lives below me was a theatre geek in high school and periodically starts singing...to herself, or maybe her cat, I don't know...the warbling, irritating kind of singing that's excruciating to overhear, and so it drives me to find ridiculous distractions because I can't read when she's at it. Wait. I think she's done!)

Haha , that’s what I said a few weeks back. I think the biggest reason is they have a tower crane. The first was erected with a crawler crane. I was questioning why they used a crawler on the first. I guess cost and they had space for it. Probably project pacing too.

This picture just reminded me of the lot Enterprise is on.  The likelihood this Vantage project's view is disrupted by a future project is high.  It would be unfortunate to block the little urban park's view between the two towers, however, it's bound to happen I would think.  Would love to see some good density with all these empty lots starting at this enterprise all the way to 277 (Uptown Cab, Cigar club lot, etc).  Infill on those lots are going to be crucial with truly making the transition from Uptown to South End seamless and vice versa.

As a reminder, the Enterprise building is considered a non-designated property eligible for historic designation. It's had some bad renovation work, but is otherwise considered a good example of 50s modernist design.

Pre-covid, I heard rumors of a tower slated for the Enterprise lot. Last I heard,  it's still slowly moving forward/on the back burner, but rumors are rumors. 400'+

This project looks good in sun and clouds and from most any angle.   I did not think Spectrum could top 300 South Tryon Barings but they did it with this project.  Can't wait to see that hotel plopped on top of the deck.

Considering the Apartment boom, could that hotel be redesigned to Apartments/Condos?

Plenty of apartments are going up in South End.  South End badly needs hotel rooms.

It won't be. I think outside of Florida, South End is the safest bet in a major submarket for a hotel in the South East. Also Apartments would require more parking than a hotel, and condos... in the words of my former home "fuhgettaboutit"
