Asheville Ring Municipalities

Wasn't sure where to put these pics, as Marion is a bit too far out from Charlotte to post there, and probably too small for its own thread.  Anyway, about two weeks ago I finally had the chance to drive up to Asheville, and drove through Marion en route to Mount Mitchell on the way.  Nice little town, nothing terribly special but I wanted to share a few pics since it gets so little attention otherwise.

Also, if you're like me and love driving down curvy narrow roads, NC 80 to the northwest of Marion is one of the most fun roads I have driven on to date.  Very demanding, so no pics, but the scenery is beautiful and the road is well-kept.

There is a downtown coffee shop up there I seem to remember.  It had a surprisingly bohemian feel considering the context.

I always take NC 80 to the BRP then on to Mt Mitchell.  I love the curves and twists and turns.  Fun driving.

this may not seem like a lot but in county like Cherokee this is huge!

Okay this is about an hour away from Asheville but Cherokee on the Qualla Boundary has a lot of construction.  3 tower cranes for the new 725 room expansion of the Harrahs Cherokee hotel and 100,000 sq ft convention center.  The 725 room expansion would be bigger than ANY hotel in Charlotte and the resort will have over 1800 rooms when done by far the biggest hotel in the state of NC and the biggest employer west of Asheville.   Most photos ever posted on UP of the town of Cherokee LOL.
