Influential black leaders are involved in the effort to bring MLB to Nashville. Lots of power and money involved there.

I love that.  The more a diverse community of people have ownership in things like this...the better.

Reading that, it makes it kinda sound like they may have some assurances this thing is likely to happen.  If it does, I really hope they can place the stadium near the Titans' stadium like in the renders.  If they have to place it outside of downtown, it will not be a good start.

Give the Titans ownership a stake in the MLB team ownership. That location is best in the state.

With the currents issues between players and owners, I’m not sure it would be wise to expand. Overall, many markets are down in attendance, and then of course that huge Astros scandal has put a nasty mark on the game.

Also, Nashville does not really need this.

I'm with you on this. I'm not sure why this is starting to get more steam. Nashville just spent a bunch of money on a really nice AAA ballpark, is still building a MLS stadium and we're in the middle of a pandemic that we have no idea of when it will end. Plus, even with Nashville booming like it has, I still don't think we can support the NFL, NHL, MLS, NASCAR and the MLB. Those are a lot of seat that have to be filled, with a lot of corporate dollars tied into it. I mean, I definitely could be wrong, but I'm not very optimistic on this happening. I'm not completely against it though, I'm just not sure of the feasibility at this point.

The only way MLB is feasible is with tourists filling the seats.

That's actually a good point.  Vegas teams will really benefit from tourism and casinos comp-ing tickets to hockey and football games.  Baseball could work in the same way if they can cater to the tourists.  When I look at the tourists downtown in the summer, having a baseball game at night would be a great event for them to head to then come back to Broadway for more drunken stupor.  Perhaps the team has a "bachelorette party section" in the stands.  :) Could be a nice draw from conventions too.  Having a baseball stadium walking distance would be cool.   But hey, if it's fully funded by private funds... why not?

I'm sure this equation happens with all major league franchises these days.  Income flow has to be equal parts season tickets, casual local fans, and tourists, along with corporate sponsorships and broadcast rights.

I think a big issue with the economic feasibility of baseball is that there are so many games, and so many seats they have to fill in a given year to even turn a profit.  For example, if the Dodgers wanted to sell out every home game they'd have to sell over 4.5 million tickets in one season.  If a stadium in Nashville were a similar size they'd essentially require every single person in the metro area to attend two games every year in order to sell out every game.

With few exceptions baseball stadiums are not sold out each game. Baseball teams make part of their revenue by the accumulation of fans attending over the course of 82 home games.

And to those who say Nashville doesn't need this. Nobody is forcing you to go to any games.

As a Red Sox fan, I was never a fan of Dombrowski. There were known issues after he left Detroit and Boston scooped him up like he was the hottest commodity in baseball. He has a history of selling off the farm system for a win now mentality, but doesn't really know how to build a team/organization. No doubt he is a big name to have, but this may be his way of getting in on the ground floor of ownership rather than just being involved in day-to-day.

That's a no-brainer. People would rather travel to Nashville to see a baseball game 100x more than to Charlotte, NC.

I would love to see that happen.  Especially because it would retrospectively call into question the need for all the public funding used on the existing stadiums.

The stadium will only be privately funded if they can gather enough land to have mixed-use development revenue.

How on earth could Montreal be a top contender for an expansion team?  Montreal wouldn't make my top fifty.  It didn't work AT ALL the first time so why would it work now?  The Expos was a perennial last in attendance with some decent teams dang near every year of there existence and a terrible fan following in there area.   It was SOOOO bad that MLB purchased the franchise to move to DC.  Again why do they think this time will be any different or am I missing something?  Charlotte, Nashville, San Antonio or Austin, Portland, Indianapolis New Orleans, Las Vegas or even Buffalo should get a look at over Montreal.
