FAA gives clearance for BNA to make pitches for Asian airlines to choose Nashville as a destination.

Tennessee boasts more than 200 Japanese-owned companies and is witnessing immense investments from multiple South Korean companies. The airport also enhanced its incentives for airlines this fall, aiming them primarily at drawing "transoceanic" routes.

That newly issued go-ahead means the airport can begin an environmental study that's required before the airport extends one runway by 50%, to about 12,000 feet. That added length guarantees that factors such as wind speed or temperature won't cost an airline money by potentially forcing it to bump passengers in order to be able to take off, BNA CEO Doug Kreulen said.

The $500 million runway project isn't part of either the airport's ongoing $1.5 billion expansion, which fully opens this fall, or a second expansion that will total another $1.4 billion.  All three speak to the region's rising international profile, economic expansion and tourism growth. Those factors have fueled a rebound-and-then-some from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic: The airport saw 18.4 million passengers in its 2021-22 fiscal year, 7% higher than its pre-pandemic record.

There is no way that Rome will happen but I could see KLM or Delta doing an Amsterdam or Paris flight. Lufthansa also could fly to Frankfurt or Munich on their new 787-9

Another possibility is Icelandair to Reykjavík on a 737 max or Aer Lingus to Dublin on an A321XLR

I’m also hoping for more flights to the Caribbean and Mexico/Latin America. Copa Airlines to Panama City could also do well here in my opinion. Any flights to Asia will have to wait until the runway is extended and their economy is back to normal, but when that happens a direct flight to Japan is needed.

I 100% agree they I would expect more expansion to South America/Mexico. Maybe a flight to bogota, Mexico City, or Lima. I would say Buenz’s Aires but it sounds like it could have landing strip length issues where we would need the Murfreesboro pike expansion.

As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, airlines have canceled 207 flights scheduled to fly into or out of BNA today, 202 of those flights are from Southwest.

Yesterday, Southwest canceled 209 Nashville flights, representing 77% of the airport's cancellations. And cancellations continue to mount, Southwest has already canceled 192 scheduled Nashville flights on Thursday and Friday, according to FlightAware.

In a statement, Southwest called the impacts on its operations unacceptable and said it would continue operating a reduced schedule by flying roughly one-third of its schedule for the next several days.

We'll see how long that route hangs on when it's going up against SWA and AA. Frontier has a lengthy history of seemingly "blindly throwing darts" on routes and then abruptly dropping them faster than Megan Barry's political star after "the scandal."

The route will wind up in the cemetery too?

I could be mistaken but I think this is a resumption of a route they used to fly. I seem to remember them flying this route around 2016-2018, somewhere in there.

Has Atlas been flying the 748 to BNA much recently? I knew they were using the 744’s once or twice a week but I didn’t know we’d get -8 service.

I’ve only seen a 748 once in Nashville and I can’t recall when it was or what airline but I was driving and saw it in front and above me on its approach and was astounded about how big it was. I pulled over in a parking lot and watched it until it was out of sight.
