Has Atlas been flying the 748 to BNA much recently? I knew they were using the 744’s once or twice a week but I didn’t know we’d get -8 service.

I’ve only seen a 748 once in Nashville and I can’t recall when it was or what airline but I was driving and saw it in front and above me on its approach and was astounded about how big it was. I pulled over in a parking lot and watched it until it was out of sight.

 First time.
Maybe Atlas Air Cargo 748F will return BNA again soon. 🫣

It’s quite amazing considering how much Nashville and its surrounding areas have exploded the past 15 or so years how little United cares to be competitive here.

That's one thing I don't care for in that list is how it breaks the regionals down versus the strict mainline numbers of the Big 3 (AA, DL, UA). United is the more regionals-heavy of the legacy carriers, and that's not just at BNA. Hell, they (United) have actually trimmed seats further into STL versus what you would expect given their Star Alliance partner that is Lufthansa flies in/out of there to offer at least maybe some sort of different connection opportunity.

Yes, it would be useful to know how many of the passengers that Republic and Skywest fly are being flown as Delta Connection, American Eagle, or United Express.

Not directly related to Nashville (apologies for off topic), but Atlas Air took delivery of the final 747 to be assembled. The plane has been discontinued after 1,574 planes were assembled.

The 747 has always been my favorite aircraft. Beautiful bird. I’m saddened to see the end of the line. The good thing is, we should see them flying for another 40+ years as freighters. There’s still occasional cargo DC-8s flying out there and they haven’t been built in more than 50 years, along with DC-3’s from the ‘30’s and ‘40’s still flying around the arctic and Caribbean. No other freighter offers the capacity or nose-door capability of the 747 freighters so they’ll fill a niche for a very long time.

Paine Field is just a ferry ride away from my other house on Whidbey. It’s like a small boutique airport, with a big fireplace and leather chairs arrayed in front of it. Alaska has limited flights, but it’s perfect for West Coast destinations.

Flew out of and back into BNA this weekend. Looks fantastic! TSA doesn’t know how to run the new security checkpoint yet and was a little slow. Still plenty of construction going on but overall impressive!

I’ve heard that those new scanning machines are just by nature super slow. Hopefully it gets figured out soon.

It all starts at one lane and divides up behind the giant glass wall. It was the way the line snaked through this time that was the cause for the slow movement. They had too many lines going from ID checks to a single machine scanner. Other lanes would have only one ID check lane to a machine, while the first couple ID checks fed to a single scanner.

A manager came by after a little waiting and told them that they weren’t doing it right and it immediately sped up. It’s likely just going to take some time and realistically only took maybe 15-20 minutes at 6 am on a Wednesday morning. They definitely built for an increased capacity as not even half the machines were open, and once they got the lines right, it was fast.
