LOCAL and Florida Politics

Yeah, too bad about Nelson. I am mostly a centrist so I was hoping he would win out over the second-coming of Skeletor extremists. Most of my friends think I am a democrat, and even I couldn't vote for Gillum. This polarization is killing me. I wish there could just be a real third party movement that gets traction for the "Middle Party" moderate, centrist, and for the benefit of the middle class. This nutjobbery on either side of the 2 parties we have right now is driving me insane, and I have a feeling I am not the only one out there who feels this way.

Its fairly common to have that, we don't hear about it much as both sides have bigger fish to fry, but the anti-semitism among a small but rapidly growing group in the democratic party has been discouraging jews from voting or voting democrat, and Israel played a part in encouraging the community to vote for Trump, just because the democratic party has recently been so bad to the community. The Bill Nelson campaign was quite a bit closer then then Gillium campaign, and the biggest part of that difference there likely was jews splitting the votes between Nelson and and DeSantis.

I personally didn't dislike either Nelson or Scott and am disappointed they ran against each other. I lean libertarian (although far from extreme, I recognize there needs to be compromises and the "tragedy of the commons" is a very real, huge problem where the free market can't necessarily be left alone, but I call those who don't recognize that anarchists). In my eyes, one is right where the other is wrong pretty consistently for those 2, and having them both in theory could lead to some good compromises (assuming they go the right way on each issue). While Trump's rhethoric is no doubt bad, the democrats aren't being any better with there SJW movement and the rhetoric that the other side is just "wrong". I really want to see drug reform and some police reform  (although not by attacking the police departments, but by changing the laws we have police enforce that are not worthy of violence to enforce (victimless crimes), and funding mechanisms that encourage or require police departments to be fundraisers for themselves, and getting them to focus on enforcing and solving crimes that have actual real victims)

Rick Scott is almost certainly a criminal who should've spent the last decade living in Raiford, Fl. rather than Tallahassee, Fl.

For the life of me, I can't understand how anyone can not dislike him.

He is about on the same level of greasy, dishonest, underhanded sleaze as Trump himself. It's no surprise they're such good buddies.

I'm more surprised at the vote count.  The votes are pretty much split 4 million each all the way down the state ticket give or take a few thousand.  Statistically, that's astounding to me.  Its not like there was someone there that appealed to even 55% of the people.  We're split down the middle.

It’s odd, Democrats outnumber Republicans but Democrats are stuck at - 1 or -2 come Election Day,  even with an unprecedented ground game and bazillions of out-of-state dollars.

Offhand, I’d venture that Gillum is about as anti-Semitic as DeSantis is white-supremacist. 

Larger story: Rihanna, Trump Derangment Syndrome, $52,000,000 and a numerical advantage in registered voters couldn’t get it done for Gillum.

Hearken back to 2000. Bush over Gore turns on his razor-thin margin of victory in Florida. Pundits declare that, given demographic trends, Republicans will never prevail in Florida again.

Apparently Trump Denial Syndrome (a state of denial about Trump being a dangerous, unqualified, mentally unstable, emotionally immature fool and most likely a Russian puppet and criminal reprobate to boot) is stronger and more widespread in Florida, than the other "TDS", which in reality, is only an imaginary propaganda tool created by the Trump Denial Syndrome suffering right anyway.

Apparently, Trump Denial Syndrome is strong everywhere, not just Florida. Up the Eastern seaboard, across the deep South and Midwest. All the hillbilly rube, hick states.

After eight years of hysterical, butthurt crying by the ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome) sufferers on the right during Obama's two terms, I find it wildly ironic that those very same people are now crowing and squawking about "TDS" and "sore losers" on the left.

What the right dismisses as "TDS", is in reality, completely legitimate alarm and concern by the sane, intelligent and decent half of America, over the abomination that is currently in charge of our government while enjoying such exuberant, irrational support from the other, opposite half of America.

But I truly am thankful that Adam Putnam didn't make it out of the primaries. He'd have been almost as bad as another four years of Skeletor.

I'm in Florida because I'm a native and it's my home.

That, and our state is only about half hicks and rubes. The other half is reasonably civilized.

The reason why hicks and rubes hate liberals?

Republicans pulled this trick out early in the campaign but it never stuck.  There were like 2-3 days when they slung this around on-line but it never went anywhere except for MAGA cultists.  It was clearly a made-up charge.

We'll be going into a manual recount on the US Senate race (much more intensive than a machine recount.) The governor's race at this point is going to machine recount and could go into a manual recount with the changes we're already seeing.

I held off from saying anything until now because we suspected a problem late Tuesday night. Duval and Seminole counties were flipping blue (counties were not flipping the other way,) which suggested Democratic GOTV efforts were succeeding as expected. 

Later on early Wednesday morning, we heard reports that Broward was even more messed up than usual (its Elections office is already being monitored,) with additional issues in Palm Beach county (home of 2000's infamous hanging chads.)

I haven't seen numbers move so much in one direction in all the years I've been watching this (and I worked on the 2000 recount.)

Nevertheless, it's still possible much increased turnout among new Floridians leaning heavily GOP in counties like Citrus and Sumter may negate the differences we're seeing in the urban counties. We simply have to wait. I'll have more when I can report something solid. 

Meanwhile, folks like Hank who hate politics may want to hide for the next week or two. It's going to be a very bumpy ride. Thankfully (if you're a Democrat,) the party is going to aggressively work to ensure every vote is counted this time.

Dems tried to steal the election in 2000 and failed. Have they considered how embarrassing it’ll be if Gillum and Nelson have to concede a second time ?
