I guess we could have gone… it turns out just 5400 tickets were sold to the Trump - O’Reilly “History Tour” at the Am.

6200 went through the turnstiles, which seems to suggest 800 got in free.

According to the Sentinel, apparently that was less than half of capacity.

Oh, well- maybe next year.

I bet Trump didn't let O'Reilly get a word in edgewise and the "show" was just Trump nonsensically ranting for two hours.

Not really.

First of all, he inherited a good economy from Obama. Something the right never fails to ignore. Second of all, when he left office, there were fewer jobs than when he was elected.

And even though he had nothing to do with the crime rate, it could not actually be called low during his tenure.

The idea that the national economy and crime is dependent on who is in the White House is laughable.

True.

A President has some influence over the economy and even, to a lesser extent law enforcement.

He/she can sort of help steer those things in a general direction if the Congress he/she has to work with is on the same page.

But yeah, the idea that the POTUS  has any kind of direct affect has no basis in reality.

Not only that, but any influence he/she might exert would not be felt for a long time.

Florida Politics is reporting Reps. Carlos Guillermo Smith, Anna Eskamani and former Lt. Gov. nominee Chris King are all interested in Congresswoman Murphy’s seat on the blue side, while the GOP is led by Rep. Anthony Sabatini of Lake County, one of the worst excuses for a legislator since Chris Dorworth left Tallahassee in disgrace.

Much will depend on which redistricting map wins, so stay tuned…

Past few days notwithstanding, the economy is currently running pretty well. Jobs, GDP, housing starts, production are pretty well back to pre-covid. Corporate earing are strong, the market looks positive, personal income is high and wages at the  bottom have increased nearly 25%. Inventories are too low, inflation is too high and appears to be sticky and that seems to be what everyone is feeling. But numbers wise, this economy is out performing where it should be given the past 2 years.

Crime in general is down. Murders however have skyrocketed.

Florida Marijuana Activists Pivot To 2024 For Legalization Ballot Initiative

It makes more sense - you get a lot more casual, younger voters turning out in presidential years and they tend to be more progressive.

Hopefully everyone can unite behind just one initiative this time and we're able to get some big financial backers like John Morgan and hopefully others too.

Even if they get it on the ballot and the voters approve it with the required margin, if DeSpineless is still Governor and the state legislature is still under GOP control, they'll figure out some slick, underhanded maneuver to stall signing it into law indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the same Repugnants are already crouched and poised to spring into action to outlaw all abortions past 15 weeks as soon as Trump's lackeys on the SCOTUS overturn Roe v. Wade.

Welcome to FloriDUH.

So, what other important business is Florida's Republican legislature working on other than planning how to best curtail women's reproductive rights and kowtowing to Trump supporters?

They are busy as bees crafting SB 1006, aka The Strawberry Shortcake Bill, which will make strawberry shortcake the official dessert of Florida.

Big surprise here, it was sponsored by the House Rep. from Plant City, aka Florida's strawberry growing capitol, Lawrence McClure.

The fix is in (as was expected) at OIA and Mayor Mushmouth once again demonstrated his complete lack of a backbone:

Applause to OC Mayor Demings for doing the right thing while the mayor from Orlando did what he always does. If you wonder why Orlando is so mediocre, it was all in view right here.

I’d suggest Buddy just register as the DeSantis GOP toadie he so wants to be, but again, that would require courage, and even his billionaire Buddies couldn’t save his job in 2023. That’s right, the job he gets six-figures for to make do-nothing decisions like this.

”Of the remaining two members of the authority, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings voted to hire the director of Seattle’s airport and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the Seattle airport director was his top pick but he would vote along with the majority as a show of unanimity.”

The Florida Environmental Regulation Commission hasn’t met in five years. Wonder why Florida’s environment is such a mess. Thank the GOP overlords in Tallahassee. Then, chat with a manatee about it. Will residents ever learn - especially the influx of retirees who keep these folks in power?

Conservative pro-business group Florida Tax Watch joins environmentalists in saying it’s time to pull down the Rodman Dam, the last anachronistic vestige of the Cross-Florida Barge Canal boondoggle.

Restore some of Florida’s most beautiful springs, to name just one great benefit. Let’s get this done!

I got to know Sen. Kirkpatrick and his family when I worked in the Florida Senate and he did incredible work for his Gainesville district. However, he was totally wrong on this one. Time to let nature take her course.

Early voting starts tomorrow at the SoE office on Kaley in beautiful downtown SoDo for voters from these cities: Apopka, Belle Isle, Eatonville, Maitland, Oakland and Winter Park. Vote early runs through March 4 and the office is open 8am-5pm.

WP has some intriguing amendments to the city charter that are important for residents to weigh in on.

If you live in any of these cities, GO VOTE! Let Putin know you understand just how important democracy is.

Several local elections taking place in OC today. Two biggies: first, Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson is returned to office.

I’m not thrilled that Mayor Nelson is related by marriage to the late 50-year Apopka Mayor John Land, whose overlong stay in office was a key reason his city fell far behind in the kind of amenities other towns like WG embraced. He also seems to have given Bulldozer Buddy similar ideas, resulting in the decline of Orlando’s historic core.

Nevertheless, Mayor Nelson did show developers that everything’s not for sale and rescued historic Camp Wewa. That alone makes me happy Apopka voters are giving him four more years.

In another blow for developers (no, Virginia, you don’t just have to accept whatever dreck developers and their political enablers throw at you), Winter Park residents approved all the charter amendments on the ballot, keeping said politicians from caving to their developer overlords by requiring supermajority votes on most development issues.

Now, if Orlando voters can find the same backbone next year, there may be hope in 2023.

Requiring a super majority is the local government version of the filibuster at the federal senate level.

Indeed it is, but in a region infamous for paving paradise to put up a parking lot or ugly, cheap boxes (did we mention Chris Dorworth?)  it’s sadly necessary.
