By Tuesday night, each of the five cities working together on the fiber ring will have voted to establish the Southside Network Authority. This will be the vehicle used to develop and manage the ring.

Hampton Roads won a national competition to receive funding for this. The collaborative efforts between cities is said to have helped the area win.  https://www.13newsnow.com/mobile/article/news/

Amazing what working together can bring you right?

This is a really big development that does not seem to be getting much attention here.  Congratulations to the five HR cities which combined on this bid (Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk). Hopefully there will be many more collaborations like this in the near future.

It's really weird how much this is being undersold from a regionalism standpoint. If the cities could work together this way on transportation, big business, or other major projects, the next few years could look really good for Hampton Roads.
