The renovation of the Flatiron Building in downtown as commenced.

and work has started saw it today however my photo does not show it as it was ground level and I was looking up.   Plus some other photos of downtown Asheville.   Downtown Asheville is worth a walkabout any time you are in the area.

So… as an tourist in downtown Asheville once or twice a year for the past 25 years it seems like… the unhoused population has been recently… removed? Relocated? Displaced? Housed? this summer?

so what is up? As a bougie tourist it’s pretty nice, but clearly this comes at a huge (and invisible) social cost. Anyone know what APD (and the city) has been up to?

They got moved to hotels away from the CBD. I saw a bunch of folks by one and they went in and out it.  Hopefully they house them in the winter too and this isn't just a temporary summer tourist thing.

this could slow development if the tourist stop coming and shopping downtown.  Downtown Asheville has some problems with vagrants and drug use open on the streets if not taken care of it will destroy the businesses downtown which are mostly tourist dependent.

I have personally noticed some of this but it seems to be getting worse.

In response to the above downtown Asheville will see more policing with the Buncombe County sheriffs office helping out.   This is a positive reaction to the crime problems downtown.
