J.E. Dunn is moving construction offices into former 12th and Porter building.  Also, more fencing up around structures to be razed for the hotel.

Glad the building that housed 12th and Porter is going to remain.  That corner could be a really cool hub of nightlife, like a mini Underground Atlanta. But I saw that the brick building next door will be demolished for the hotel. Anyone here know what that building was originally built for? And also that three story white-painted brick building that has that odd open-air corner. I'd guess that most of those buildings were built around the early 1900s and used primarily as freight offices and warehouses.

Sad that 12th & Porter is not a music venue anymore.  Have seen a lot of cool bands in that place.

The 16 story, 280 room hotel  will cost a bit under $200 million and will get underway by December, according to Ken Copeland, the chief investment officer at Flank, Inc. 

"We are well-capitalized and plan to move forward with these projects (the hotel and Gibson Residences being built a block away)," Copeland said. "I feel confident that given the quality of the projects, [construction financing] will not ultimately be an issue. If anything … those projects will become more compelling because I think some of the less well-capitalized groups that are out there probably will have a harder time getting new development done."

I see the demo is all but complete for the Gibson building.  What's the status of demo for this project?  It's a cool little building.

This one is on hold until they say go. It is a victim of COVID right now, but with the hotel market coming back I would bet they start before the end of the year. I hope so anyway, but we have not heard anything to say they were starting.

 

Candy Isles would be the inside man for that project, but he would not be able to say anything.

A foundation permit has been applied  for by Flank in order to get started.  Looks like it will be 17 stories instead of 16.
