I'm not sure about the Checks Cashed place, but I do know that that site is the location of the first ever Bojangles. It's been remodeled since, but it's a little piece of Charlotte history

It feels like the original Bojangles should have some brick, or at least a faux brick facade.  This first ever Bojangles looks like it could be any random Bojangles off I-95.  Celebrate the original Bojangles!!!

Since the original isn’t actually existing anymore (which was much more notable… see for yourself.)

I think this may be it:

Wouldn’t mind a sycamore brewing style deal here if there was interest in development of that lot. The new space would likely be more urban style I’d hope. It would still remain the site of the first ever Bojangles + other development on top.

These Centro apartments look great and cant wait to see their retail lineup in the small spaces and I think they have one restaurant spot overlooking the park.

For the longest time I thought they were just going to leave the exposed concrete parking deck there and got sad every time I looked out the window at work. I was so happy when they started building the apartments.

I know many of us don't like the car-centricity implied by new construction with such large garages.

But I'd like to pause to celebrate how much better we've become as a city at hiding the garages.  I stayed at the Ashton when I arrived in Charlotte.  Its garage sticks out like a sore thumb.  It surely would have been integrated into the bones of the building were it built today.

While an embedded garage means a project is probably stuck with it for the life of the building with limited opportunity to reuse the garage space, I still think I'd rather hide it and use adjacent land for other uses and more refined architecture.

/rant This is worse screened deck in South End since the same developer built the Rail Yard. Don’t get me wrong, I love the micro retail these buildings have brought to the area. And I appreciate them fronting the money for the park to be completed. Just wish they would screen their decks much better. IMO South Tryon should not have an exposed parking deck facing it like this apartment building does.

Why must it be that way?  Why can't these garages (at least some of them) be built with flat sufaces, with a separate spiral ramp to get to each level, like the CLT airport garage?  If they had flat surfaces they could easily be converted to other uses.

Likely cost.
