For me, I'd like to see more mid to high rise apartments of this type (brick, steel, glass) in south end as opposed to the 6-8 story units of the past. I think a few other new projects share some similar components but this is definitely in a class of it's own. Mid-town is certainly setting a new bar with the Radius and the other apartment tower.

they are also building apartments at Savona Mill and this location I was not aware of at 2120 South Tryon.

Southend alone is literally at the peak of having too many 5/6 midrise apartments. It looks too forced at this point. So I completely agree! The variety in heights looks so much more interesting.

And much more diverse. It’s time for higher density in south-end as land becomes scarce.

Judging by these new renderings, it looks like the garage cladding we have now is the garage cladding we’ll get. Was still holding out hope they had a trick up there sleeve to improve it some. Definitely still a massive win for south end tho

and to the question above, Axios’s insta post said it’ll start in construction in October

Seems like the land values, at least within a couple blocks of South Blvd and the light rail is naturally accomplishing that.

I absolutely love the architecture on this one. Love the brick at the bottom and love the unique shape of the glass and steel section up top. Please let this be the start of a trend with these brick+steel/glass high-rises in South End, I would be ecstatic.

ETA: I personally think brick buildings, when maintained well, are more visually pleasing and comforting from street level. While steel/glass is more pleasing for an aerial or full skyline view. So this type of building gives the best of both worlds, which is why I like it.

There are 5 levels of parking w/ ~300 spaces, so under-parked by about 130-150 spaces to what is typically market.
