More leases for retailers now including Night Swim Coffee at the yet to be done upcoming Portman apartment tower.  

""Night Swim Coffee will open its sixth Charlotte location at 2161 Hawkins, an apartment tower currently under construction in South End.

The local coffee roaster has signed a lease for 623 square feet at the 24-story, 318,000-square-foot tower slated to deliver in mid- to late 2024.   

The building will include 370 luxury residential units, 18,700 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space, and an activated plaza and green space that will take shape between 2161 Hawkins and The Line, which is next door at 2151 Hawkins St. Amenities will include concierge service, a rooftop pool, coworking spaces, a game room, climbing wall, indoor and outdoor fitness centers, and a fourth-floor sky bridge connection to The Line.

Portman also announced recently that Bar One South End will lease 2,389 square feet on the ground floor. this new apartment building will be  using its retail lineup to help lease apartments in their new tower perhaps a first for Charlotte.  It is a great strategy.

Sycamore Brewing is opening May 31.  Portman apartment tower rising.  I can't wait for this one.

I'm not saying it was by original design, nor trying to give them undue credit, but, based upon the renderings of the new building, and this placement, the overwhelming presence of that parking garage is actually going to be mitigated significantly by the new structure. Happy Accident or not, it's going to be vastly improved.
