This makes me sad. Nikki's is an old style diner that served up the usual 'greasy spoon' fare. Onion rings were the best in town. The owner (son of the founder) went to Duke, but he's in his late 70s now and ready to retire.  Only ate there about 3-4 times a year, but it was always a time capsule. A shame to lose  it.

That is sad news indeed... at least we still have Zarzour's!

In the Hamilton Place (Mall) area, a 4.55 acre parcel, containing a 48-year-old Presbyterian congregation has sold or $5.55M to DDC Hotels for a new 200-room Drury Plaza hotel (sound similar but about 1/3 smaller to the one at the Cool Springs Galleria in Franklin). This site is right at the ramp at the NE corner of Shallowford and I-75, in front of the Waterside development.

No rendering released yet.

I'll start here to chronicle how much of a building boom Chattanooga is seeing in the close-in residential neighborhoods. Here's Red Bank, which has been a quasi-rural oasis only two miles north of the center. More density in three new developments.

Noon Development Co. plans to break ground this fall on a 25,500-square-foot medical office building. The two-level structure, which could grow larger by nearly 50% depending on demand, will be the first new building to go into the former Alstom site on Riverfront Parkway near the central city.

Legacybox doubles HQ space and hires 125 additional employees this year.

Legacybox is located just east of downtown on Holtzclaw Avenue, in an area that was recently considered depressed, but has sprung back to life.

Legacybox has also added 125 employees this year, bringing its workforce to more than 300. The company has served nearly 1 million customers, and has seen steady growth during the pandemic as people stuck at home clean out attics and closets and convert old family photos and films to new media.

Macco and Boeselager officially founded their original media conversion company, Southtree, in 2009, though the business began in 2006 when they were college students at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, transferring VCR tapes to DVDs in their garage.

A fast-growing, Chattanooga-based freight brokerage company plans to double its employee headcount to over 200 by year's end, and it's expanding its office footprint to the North Shore. Would you say Chattanooga is growing at about the same clip as Nashville or no?

Definitely good news!  I like the view from some of the units.

And I sure do hope they'll remove the 1970s cladding and restore the exterior to its original glory:

New Law Enforcement Training Center Slated For Tract On Amnicola Highway Across From Lake Junior

https://www.chattanoogan.com/2021/3/12/424818/New-Law-Enforcement-Training-Center.aspx?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

The wooded site near Highway 153 has long been owned by TVA.

The City Council on March 23 is to consider a resolution for the city to pay TVA up to $100,000 for administrative costs of TVA transferring the property to the city and county.

The resolution refers to "the pending acquisition" of the property.

The current police firing range is on Moccasin Bend.....

I’m glad to get this off Moccasin Bend so the National Park and be built out and completed but I don’t know if this is the best location.... I guess the price was right.
