There is an extent to which a recession is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Question: do YOU want to have a recession ?

Nobody want's a recession. Just saying there is no "consensus" of a recession not happening. It's all about planning and taking preventative measures. I'm getting out of the stock market for now as my personal measure to reduce the risk to me.

Of course we’re going to have a recession - somebody. Your own reference has half predicting by late 2020. That’s far enough out that just about everything we know about will get started.

It will end - someday. Meantime: crayons and puppy dogs!

and yet I heard no one make 2019 sports predictions yet?  will Riverboat Ron keep his job?  Will the Panthers make the playoffs next year?  what about the Hornets?  who will win the Chase?  who will win the slam dunk contest at the All Star Game?

I’m going to predict Hurley goes, Rivera stays and takes over the defense.

1 more Fortune 500 HQ.

Atrium Heapth releases renderings of its planned substantial modernization and bed expansion for the main tower of the CMC Main campus.

The current Commercial high rise cycle continues as Duke breaks ground on its new HQ, LU 2 steams ahead, and dirt moves on the site of a mystery 500 footer.

Blockbuster Video finally breaks ground on the Elizabeth 7th street store it planned in 1993.  Likely to be at the corner of Seventh and Caswell since the quality development once planned there is entirely killed by Elizabeth Community Association opposition.

Panthers Rebound nicely in 2019 and clinch a playoff birth with Coach Rivera still at the helm.

The Southpark area begins to look much more dense, especially along Sharon north of Fairview when the ski slope church project tops out and the redevelopment of the sharon corridor along Morrison and colony begins construction.

It becomes more likely that a recession is inevitable when the E-Scooter market craters.  Yet, it’s replacement, the Entity, suddenly becomes a major economic driver that gives GDP growth a surprise boost in Q3 and a boost that greatly exceeds all analyst predictions after many Americans enjoy the extra disposable income they discover from the first tax refund received post enactment of the Trump administration’s tax plan.

Predictions of 2019 announcements, not necessarily completions, or even physical beginnings during the year...

•  The long-sought 1000-room convention hotel will be announced, on the current site of the Duke Energy computer center, which adjoins the Convention Center on two sides.  The new project will involve substantial additional convention space and ballrooms on the first three floors; 30 stories of office space; topped by an atrium hotel with rooms beginning on the 33rd floor; and one or two Overstreet Mall connections giving convention-goers covered access to the center city.

•  A medical school will be announced for Charlotte (currently, I think, the nation's largest city without one).  Site:  Cherry, convenient to Carolinas Medical Center, Presby, and Mercy.

•  A new Catawba River bridge will be announced, from Rock Hill to the US 521/NC 75 intersection, providing a direct link from Rock Hill to Waxhaw to Monroe -- the first leg of an outer outer belt.   Part of the route will go through land owned by the Catawba Tribe in SC, and the Tribe will get a casino permit as part of the deal.

•  UNCC will announce it will increase its Uptown presence,  with construction on the Levine land.

•  Charlotte Country Club  will announce development of a second 18-hole course,  in the Weddington/Waxhaw area.  They'll keep their Plaza-Midwood facility going -- for now.

•  Donald Trump will announce he won't seek the Republican Presidential nomination in 2020.  Your next President:  Senator Rob Portman of Ohio.

•  SouthPark will continue to thrive despite rumors of the death of retail.  A new four-star hotel will be announced for SouthPark's land fronting on Morrison Boulevard, near the Residences at SouthPark apartment tower.

•  Suburban sprawl will accelerate its comeback, especially in Union, Lancaster, and York Counties.  Seems a lot of folks prefer two acres on a pond with deer and hawks to living in a townhouse, however luxurious.  School quality, crime rates, and tax rates will increasingly be factors.

CCC is working on significant renovation plans to their facility currently.

My wish list for the new year:  1) Someone (smarter than me) can update Skyscraperpage.com - some buildings are missing from the diagram, some from the proposed list,  under construction list, etc...,

2) Bank of America will re-light the lower tiers of the building that have been out a few weeks of so, 3) Catalyst tower will re-light the top of their building (been out for several years now), and

4) Bank of America building next to the Ritz would get some better accent lighting for the trees on varoious floors in the corners of the building and something to replace what looks like construction lighting on the top floor of the building.

Huh?

We've already got an "interstate" running between charlotte and wilmington; it's called I-74, and if it were to bypass marshville and wadesboro we'd be in pretty good shape eastbound.  As far as CLT/AVL, there's not a compelling reason - at least to my mind - to build a freeway when 85/321/40 works pretty darn well and also let's me run up to Bo-one when the final upgrades are made.

I-74 turns off US-74 at Wadesboro following I-73 via Asheboro, then splitting off around High Point to Winston and Mt Airy.  I-74 completely avoids Charlotte.

I was in Pinehurst a few days ago and went via bypass and it was smo-o-o-o-th sailing the whole way except for Wadesboro and traffic there was not wearisome as sometimes occurs on summer weekends. From the Carolina Inn to My central Charlotte location was two hours, dead. Bypass was lightly traveled but enforced. Keep aware.

My prediction is that more people will discover this route.
