Not sure how many of yall know but They added this project to the Downtown Norfolk Construction updates board. That board has basically everything that has so far been getting built. High hopes for this project......I hope it does not pull a Granby Tower on us :(

“And we are ready to certainly break ground and hopefully be able to open for business sometime in late 2023.”

The official groundbreaking is expected to take place this summer with construction following soon after....

On the agenda for city council's retreat on Mar. 4th is an update from city staff on the casino.

I hope it does not get shortened again into a 7-11 with a few gambling machines! All jokes aside im excited to see if they changed anything for the better on it.

My guess is there won't be any changes. This is going to be a high quality casino, and will be more unique than the other Virginia venues. I really am impressed with the effort the Pamunkey are putting into revitalize that stretch of waterfront.

All hopes for this project are still up. They are expecting to break ground this year, right?

Construction timeline has been readjusted and the opening has been pushed back by a whole year to July 2024. The ground breaking is still set for this summer. With the gaming license expected to he approved this summer that also leaves 2 years with a license but no where to gamble. This leads them to thinking of setting up a "temporary casino" either in Harbor Park, tents, trailers, or other temporary structures. Although I should note that the Harbor Park option is the only one being considered at this time.

This all came from the same Instagram as my post in the military circle development thread.

HeadWaters doesn't need to concern itself with the Portsmouth Casino opening earlier. They aren't going after the same clientele.

A casino is a casino…  both of these will primarily serve customers in the seven cities…

That is pretty clear. I have been to many casinos, in Las Vegas, AC, etc.,  and various tribal casinos. The quality evident in the renderings is far superior to say Dover Downs, Ocean Downs, and others. This is going to be a top quality Vegas style experience.

I hope you are right about that, that is exciting to hear. Now if they can get that river front popping,  we have a quorum.

There is some adjacent property they could potentially leverage as well and perhaps deciding the future of harbor park and in one swipe making LRT viable....

Wonder how big the game room will actually be. One of the criticisms of the MGM grand in National Harbor is, it feels small.
Hope they do it right, I guess this has a better chance of being done right then any other project since we are talking casino offerings and money. The foot print seems small though, I still can't picture it on that small plot of land.

The game room is shown in the floor plan on the pdf. I’m on mobile now and the file keeps crashing on me but I was looking at it earlier on my desktop.

I’m surprised people comment that MGM National Harbor feels small because it definitely doesn’t to me. It has a total gaming floor area of 135,000 square feet which is about the size of all the other MGM properties in Las Vegas. MGM’s Aria has a total gaming floor area of 150,000 square feet, for example.

Thanks for that, man that's pretty exciting. Makes me want to move back home and take a job, lol.

That looks outstanding. If they do this right, this could be a real game changer for the area on many levels.

My impressions could have everything to do with the spacing of the games/tables room, so maybe that is why I feel that way. I won't necessary disagree with you, that's why I used the word "feel". I'm more so comparing it to the other casinos I have visited. I certainly want to lean towards your perspective.

Man I don't want to drag SPQ into this discussion (we all know I hate their plan), but because of proximity, does anyone believe they may reconsider their plan? I mean, this is adjacent. This has a real opportunity to breathe some life back into that area.

I can only imagine what Homecoming season will look like there between NSU, ODU, HU, CNU, and even WM....
