I found this article on the 500 Nations Casino website...

Norfolk considers new plan for temporary HeadWaters casino

September 11, 2022

"The Pamunkey Tribe wants approval to build a temporary casino within six months to operate while construction is underway at the HeadWaters Resort & Casino. The HeadWaters Casino is expected to open by November 2024.

The Norfolk temporary casino would replace more than 300 parking spaces with a 35-foot tall, single-story building. The total size would be 45,000 square feet and include a casino, a restaurant and a bar. The type and number of gaming machines has not been disclosed.

Final approval for the plan must come from the City Council after the building permits are approved".

This is exactly why I brung up the question.....Why. The. Hell. would  you build a building of that size which, no doubt would also be nice and attractive to then just tear it down. Give it to the city, make it a pump station, make it storage, give it to amtrack, incorporate INTO your finished product, or just do somthing else that would benefit the area with it. Just why, would you tear it down with all that it will have. Because for a temporary casino, it no doubt needs to look and be nice. I doubt its going to be a big boxy warehouse.

ALSO, 35 ft tall for a 1 story building??? 35 ft is on average 2-3 stories tall!

This is an absolutely funny comparison but this inflatable is exactly 35ft tall compared to the average person's height. Thats a pretty BIG building...

35 ft is roughly 3.5 stories, which is probably also the height of the D&B’s I referenced. That’s a decent-sized building to only be “temporary”.

Can’t be. The design isn’t boring enough.

You're a teenager and I assume have never been inside a casino. Casino ceilings are tall, have tons of cameras, and are very spacious.

As a reference, this is the interior of Paris Las Vegas.

Yea....Only one I have seen in person was on a cruise ship while we passed through. Seeing that picture you send, I had no idea they were like a whole town inside. I had the idea of the 1940s Chicago gangster movies about Al Capone depiction of a gambling place, red and black carpet, with alot of couches, chandeliers, and gold.

This looks like about all we are going to get, with the direction this project is headed in.

They would be crazy to destroy that building once built. Infact it could serve good use in the area.

This was the July meeting. Most of the Pamunkey stuff was discussed towards the very end around the 2:17 mark. All I could really glean from this is that they're holding monthly meetings with the Pamunkey, and that the Pamunkey plan to open the temporary Casino in March of 2023, which means they'd have to start building very soon.

Unless they're erecting a few 38' poles and throwing a tarp on top, I don't see how they would have this temporary casino open in March.

They spent literally ten seconds on the Pamunkey Casino. The lottery is holding monthly meetings with them and they anticipate opening a temporary casino ‘sometime in the future.’

You weren't kidding. That was absolutely pathetic, not even worth me posting. "Temporary Casino sometime in the future"... What? A TEMPORARY Casino sometime in the future? What about the real one. This thing seems to be as dead as a doornail. Call in Cordish. As much as I despise them, they'd be building this thing by now.

They want to make sure they do the temporary (read: eventual permanent) casino just right. They want to make sure it's a masterpiece attracting folks from blocks away.

I asked Mrs. McClellan, and she said that she has been frustrated by the delays. She has voiced her concerns, but she’s not getting any answers. She has no idea when the VA lottery board will grant the license, but she does not believe that it is the City’s fault in any way.  She wonders if the developers have submitted everything to the lottery board.

She also indicates that the skills game facility must open within 24 months of the  opening of the temporary facility.
