How so, it used to have a Starbucks now it isn’t open.. and it’s got a food court like this will have.

For starters, they have a high-end celebrity chef steakhouse: Voltaggio Brothers. They also have a Shake Shack and a high-end Italian restaurant as well as another full service sit down Mexican.  And more.

Then there are the specs. By the numbers, this thing is so far removed from the Portsmouth casino project it’s not even funny.

I mean, in the sense of there being table games to play, food to eat, and alcohol to drink, sure it's comparable.

But as far as scale, size, and variety/attractiveness of offerings, it's not even close. It's like saying Texas Roadhouse is comparable to Morton's or Ruth's Chris.

Wow! That was quick. For some reason I didn't think it would open until summer '23 at the earliest.

Walmarts go up pretty quick.

Opening is set for January 15th.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth will open to the public Jan. 15 at 3 p.m., according to an announcement Monday.”

While I'm not a gambler, I am curious as to what they're bringing to the table and how this one is being received. I'll probably go at least once opening month just to check it out.

Same. I’m interested in checking out the TopGolf setup. Sounds like it’ll be more than just golf simulation-the presentation showed baseball as well. Curious if any other sports are included. If the Bristol temporary casino is any indication, they should have a better than anticipated launch.

Here's a link to one of their locations with a bit more information. It's basically a simulator where the branding is around TopGolf, but you can do a lot more.

Has anyone gone to either of the soft openings? I read all over Facebook that the entire casino is open to smoking. I am actually shocked that this is allowed because of all the rules in Virginia. I was tempted to check it out in a couple of weeks, but now I really don't want to deal with all of the smoke.

This is pretty common for casinos. They don't want you to stop gambling for all of your cigarette breaks. This is the same reason you get comped drinks when playing table games or placing bets. They want to keep you at the tables.

More importantly, like most casinos, they have an amazing ventilation system and I couldn't notice any of the smoke. Can say the same for the casinos I've visited in Vegas; Mandalay Bay, Circa, MGM Grand and Bellagio.
