This seems odd, it would be a huge co work space.  I agree it looks more like an office now.  The loss of the food hall is another big disappointment.   The views to the park would be obstructed by the residential portion on the roof but it would have been a cool connection to whatever nightlife eventually comes nearby (if it stayed a restaurant up there).  If we are getting another announcement that a new corp HQ is coming here (and not just a local reshuffle) it would be great and worth losing the food hall.

Yeah, I really took only a very quick look at this. That plaza isn't going to be used all that much with just one retail use.  The rooftop not attracting a restaurant kind of makes sense, given this is away from other restaurants.

It just seems like there has not been a lot of progress on this building in the past few months.  The exterior looks no more complete than the beginning of the year.

Before anybody freaks out, it has not stalled. They were working on the large rotunda restaurant space area that fronts Rhett Street (installing the steel that will hold the glass) when I drove by on Monday.  I’m sure they’re having supply issues like everybody else on the planet.

Yeah, I figured that they were having supply or labor issues. I don't know how common the exterior pieces that they are using are.

Eh, at least its a little different from most of the other stuff. I do wish this had been broken up into two buildings or at least had a "tower' section that went higher; the massing of this building is like driving by a 120f ft wall beside Academy.

Purpose Financial is the tenant. Corporate headquarters. Relocating from Spartanburg. 25,584 square feet.

I guess I was sort of right if you consider that a bank, lol. Looks like they must be moving from Spartanburg.

Would have been happier to see it be a larger company, but this is good none the less.

Edit: Only thing that sucks is that Purpose Financial is the "corporate" name of Advance America, a payday loan company. I realize these sort of companies unfortunately  have their place in the world, but not good business in my opinion...

I agree that it could be better.  It’s probably designed to be cost-effective above all.  Disappointing, as beautiful and timeless architecture doesn’t need to be expensive.  

Look at the Water Works building (407 W. Broad): timeless style and although high-quality materials were clearly used, even a similar building with cheaper brick and roofing would still look nice.

Is it just me or does it seem construction has stalled? I haven’t noticed much progress to finish the exterior in months. By contrast the Jackson Way project is always a beehive of activity.

They are still making progress on the exterior, I saw a crew finishing a new side last week. But yeah you are right it seems like progress has been ridiculously slow. Maybe problems getting whatever building cladding it was designed with?

Plenty of good white collar manufacturing jobs in the area that can support ~$2k in rent. $3000 is sorta crazy and probably mostly either retirees, empty nesters, or yuppies who come from old money with parental support

My son, who just graduated with a degree in physics, just got an engineering job (in another city) that enables him to pay such rents. Even possibly to the top of that range. As a 22-year-old. And he doesn't actually have an engineering degree.

If Greenville is still the engineering hub that it was a quarter century ago, might that be a contributing factor? There seems to be a lot of demand. I'm not an engineer, and he didn't apply to any Greenville firms , so I have no idea. But it makes me wonder.

Hopefully the DRB for their sake was drunk or high when they approved it. Hopefully.
