I'll never understand why, with vast swaths of literally empty desert on which to develop projects inland, these high wealth nations like UAE and Bahrain choose to destroy their coastline and coastal reefs for these absurd, cartoonish vanity projects that'll probably be mostly abandoned in fifty years.  I mean, they look cool in a picture, but they're pretty much the epitome of unsustainability.

Went to New Orleans this weekend 5/13-5-16/2022. Stayed in the Bywater district. Pics below are of new development only. I went about one year ago so I was able to compare progress. There’s some decent infill happening. I assume there’s a pretty heavy Historic overlay so you’re not going to see anything over 3 stories. They also had done a good amount of sidewalk and street work in the past year. The sidewalks and streets are brutal there.

The last picture is a large boutique hotel going in. Article I searched said it’s been a long time coming, with the standard NIMBY pushback. 
 

Great area to stay in if you like old shotgun house architecture. I may do a separate post of all the pretty old houses.

I'm one of Memphis' biggest advocates, and it will always have my heart, but...man does downtown need some new construction. Hopefully the Grand Hyatt at One Beale will help.

Believe it or not I am not posting photos of Miami tonight but of Colorado. I am visiting friends in Denver and Colorado Springs. The rock formations are part of the garden of the gods state park, and yes it’s really snowing here right now in May!
