The name 'Windy City' comes from the tendency of Chicago's politicians to be long winded, not the weather.

If you have a chance and they are running, take the architectural boat tour. It is well worth the money.

Unless you are in the one under Dave Matthews' tour bus.

If anyone's interested in a great read about turn of the century (20th) Chicago, I highly recommended checking out The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. Has some incredibly well-researched history around the great Chicago architects, businessmen, and politicians of the era and the 1893 World's Exposition, woven together with a crime thriller.
