Just to be clear, you're not indicating that the location is inside that cloverleaf, are you (where you have that yellow star)?  It looks like the location is on the opposite side of that image, where you see a gravel parking lot.  It's next-door to the 514 10th St. apartment building (which has barber and hair salons at street level), and The Garrison (condos) will be directly behind it.  So this is already a fairly residential location.  The only problem I see with the location is the ADM Trucking Company across the street with its ugly silos.

Correct inside that cloverleaf is owned by NC DOT and yes it is next to Circle K and the Garrison IF it gets built.

That's not the craziest location, as long as the silver line happens. Fourth Ward is nice all the way to the freight tracks.

Uhm, that is not happening, not in 4th Ward, the blocks of old Victorian homes are going to prevent that... and for a good reason.

You have a bunch of fields and/or parking lots in first and second ward, how about we use that land up first.

That would block some of that amazing view coming into Uptown on the Brookshire, but it will be imposing as Hell so close to the highway.

Eh, this isn't really close to them though, and what's it blocking? If this was like square in the middle of 4th ward park, or if for some reason they decided to move the discovery place or build on top, I'd understand. But this is in a far flung corner on semi industrial land. Not to mention that if 4th ward was cool with Skyhouse and the public housing there, they'll be more than fine with a high end tower on the periphery. Probably couldn't even see it with the trees. Now if this was in Dilworth or Myers Park, the NIMBYs would be out in force, seems that anything above the treeline there pisses people off.

Hey, if 4th ward doesn't want it, place that bad boy at LU.  That's the kind of height I want the hotel/residential aspect to have at Legacy Union.

you misunderstood his point. he's saying to skyline will never fill in between this building and the rest of uptown.

I would say Fourth Ward is desperate for this. There is no momentum in fourth ward and the homeless people are taking over.

Agree, but man, asking rent is going to be too expensive to be bounded by 277, a not-so-safe gas station, & a milling factory.  You are very right about the homelessness unfortunately, especially under those bridges.  Location is still perplexing to me for such a high-end looking tower.  It would be a great catalyst for the area though.

I'd say this has about as realistic of chance of happening, as Trump Charlotte did.

I don’t know is this project will happen, but I can see a development like this somewhere in that area.  It would  always be an outlier due to 4th Ward and the cemetery

As for development ... the best hope for 4th ward is Charlotte Gateway Station district and making sure it spreads all the way towards NC Music Factory / Avid HQ

Since I live in the neighborhood, we all got a mailer to attend an open house onsite a couple weeks ago at the metal fabrication shop that's there now.  They had the rendering from the Biz Journal along with a few others, but what piqued my interest more than this tower that will never see the light of day, was a much more close up and detailed route map of the Silver Line.  This thick purple Sharpie line that appears to go through peoples' living rooms was nearly indecipherable to me.  They had a very detailed route map that shows it coming up alongside 277 to the exit ramp loop for Graham St, where it shot diagonally across the intersection of N. Graham and W. 10th St.  I had a long conversation with the metal shop owner who just sold the property to the developers, who were also there along with the architects.  He told me the line is to be elevated and cross over the top of the intersection and that the city/county is or has purchased the Lifespan school property.  He said the plan is to redevelop the entire school block to be one story commercial space and the light rail stop for Graham St.  would be on top of this new development.  Then it would continue over N. Smith St and then alongside the RR tracks to Gateway.  Take it for what it's worth, but I've looked for finer detail for this particular route and had never seen in any map with the clarity they had shown.

My biggest question is how they plan to mitigate the 300 or so cars exiting that 8 story parking deck each morning and vice versa each evening onto a street that's about 120' long with only a stop sign there currently.  Add to that the nonstop ADM truck traffic on both 10th and the backside of N. Smith (that's the back entrance to the plant now - the crossover to the Music Factory was dead ended after Music Factory Blvd opened), and it's bound to be a major cluster.  I remember when the Music Factory opened and it would still be a year or so till they completed MF Blvd.  The only way to get to the MF was down W. 10th and over the tracks at Smith St under 277.   All those little side streets were parking lots before and after each concert.  It was crazy.  I'm not sure how they plan to address that, but the former owner told me they were working on some alternate plan for that intersection.

I agree with some on here who think this is not the best location for this tower. It would look better if it were built in SouthEnd where the Cigar Club building is (Tryon and Morehead). It would look very imposing driving down the Belk freeway.

I agree with RDF about the chances of this happening.  We will see 1Brevard before this one.
