Denver-based Bob Swerdling has submitted plans to Metro regarding two hotels he has envisioned for 1st Ave and Korean Veterans Blvd.

 

One hotel would rise 36 stories with 491 rooms and potentially 450', while the one just to the south, would rise 14 stories and have 200 rooms. 

Swerdling and his team, alongside ESa Architects and engineering firm Ragan Smith will go before MDHA tomorrow, August 6th, to seek concept plan approval. As the site sits in MDHA's Rutledge Hill redevelopment district, committee approval is required.

The proposed hotels will be 36 story and a 14 story with 491 rooms and 200 rooms . The height of the top line is 424'.

Ok so I counted what I think are floors and there are indeed 36 in that rendering. We will see if this actually comes to be.

No brands are being revealed at this time. The larger of the two (491 rooms) would rank as the 5th largest hotel in Nashville if it existed today. The two structures will share a common parking garage.

There will be traditional materials utilized like brick, along with glass and aluminum. The larger tower will feature a distinctive arc of glass and metal paneling.

"We're framing it like we're pulling the curtain back on the Nashville stage," Beene said, with the brick hotel being more "backstage" and the tower on Korean Veterans Boulevard being "on-stage,"  says Laura Beene of ESa, which is serving as the architect.

The taller tower will also include a sky bar.

The realist in me is not allowing me to get too excited, but can you imagine the Four Seasons, this hotel, and then Ray Henslers development + whatever goes on the Rolling Mill Hill parking lot on KVB?

On the taller tower I really like the curves in the design (that represent a curtain opening), the staggered windows, as well as the three indentations.

I also enjoy that the 14 story tower will be primarily brick/glass...has similarities to the Graduate Hotel design on West End Ave.

It reminds me of Cambria.  I actually saw the renders and thought maybe they were somehow building this thing next to Cambria...but I couldn't figure it out with Embassy Suites going there.
