I'd love development there if it can incorporate some of the existing businesses well. Places like Arnold's and Rudy's are important to Nashville's cultural identity.

I agree.  Of course, they don’t have to remain in those buildings.  Even though Arnolds has been in that area for decades…they’re in a different building.  Definitely don’t want either of them to close down or have to move out of the area.

Agreed.  I get that some buildings are just too far gone, but I honestly believe that in most cases it simply boils down to laziness and/or a lack of will power from the developers.

A $600,000 permit has been issued for continuing interior work on the conversion of the former Downtown Antique Mall into creative office space. DWC Construction is handling the job (606 8th Ave. South) .

Two Hands Cafe out of NYC will be the first eatery in the former Antique Mall building.  Two Hands will have a 2nd quarter opening in 2022. No word on how many square feet, but an interior  rendering is available.

Maiz de la Vida will be a new Mexican restaurant concept opening in spring of 2022 in Paseo de Gulch.  It will take up 3,000 sq. ft. as well as an outdoor patio in the former Downtown Antiques Building, which has been repurposed for office/commercial.  Chef Julio Hernandez and Chopper Tiki and Barista Parlor owner Andy Mumma are ll involved with the eatery.

In a few weeks, SomeraRoad will start work on the site’s first tower, a 16-story residential building between the former Voorhees Building and Downtown Antiques Mall, said Jonathon Reeser, director of acquisitions.

SomeraRoad has purchased the 1.9 acre  property at 714 8th Ave. South/700-710 Division St.  for $38 million ($20 million per acre) to expand its footprint for Paseo Gulch. Southeast Venture was the seller, having paid $5.55 million for it in 2014.

“To further build upon [the Paseo South Gulch vision], we have acquired additional property to widen the project’s scope in exciting new ways,” Jonathon Reeser, SomeraRoad director of acquisitions, said in a statement. “We are working with a Nashville-based team of innovators, creators, designers and community leaders and we look forward to sharing more as our final plans develop.”

Reeser said the company is not ready to offer details, timelines and images of the future development planned for the just-purchased property. Seemingly, no redevelopment looms.

This site is zoned for up to 30 stories by Downtown Code.
