From the article:

The approval came with two amendments from Commissioner Hill: a reduction from 17 stories to 15 and a maximum overall height of 171 feet. A height of 182 feet was originally asked for.

Anyone know why they would want to do that?

This is Orlando.

It's what they do here.

Something about wanting everything to be as unimpressive as they can possibly force it to be.

Some new info here... we already know Com. Hill asked to reduce the height from 17 to 15 stories. Now the developer is pursuing hotel space instead of office space. That change would still be commercial use, so it would allow them the bonus FAR, but it would change the needs back to 17 stories- maybe 16 depending on special event valet parking.

The change to hotel was precipitated by the financing squeeze developers are going to be feeling re: office space. The article mentions a few other local developments that will feel those same pressures namely Society, Magic S&ED and T2 at CSP.

This seems to be back on the table. Originally planned to be 17 stories of 1 bdrm apartments and offices that was reduced to 15 stories with hotel replacing the office space.

Now it is back supposedly with a contract as a 150 studio/ room Marriott Element Hotel, 6 retail spaces, 145 living units and parking garage all in a 18 story plan.

@popsiclebrandon, one of your favorite investors, Timothy Greene of 534 Scratch Kitchen is now involved.

Oh come on! Like does no one even google at the Orlando Sentinel?

Green is currently facing 7!!! different breach of contract/fraud lawsuits, 1 domestic violence charge, another felony for criminal mischief while harassing the same woman, and 2 operating without a permit violations.
