Carolina Weekends

For the  past month or two, I have been in S.C. numerous times from Kiawah, Charleston, Columbia up to Greenville and Spartanburg.

I won’t get into comparing the cities because it leads to a lot of hurt feelings, but all cities show well in different ways.

Charleston still can’t be duplicated, the history of the city can’t be replicated and the new buildings are designed really well.  Greenville’s Westend, in my opinion, is the place to be in that city.  The area from the park to the stadium feels much more organic and has a good street presence.

Cola has elements of all places in S.C. rolled into one city.  There are a ton of events happening in the city from major college football to sold out concerts at the CLA to the arts.  There is a lot of history in the city with one of the best parks in the country, the statehouse grounds.  The Vista is ever expanding into other parallel streets and has strong  density.  Last night in the city was  really cool....massive amounts of people strolling the streets of the Vista and Main....did not head to Five Points. And, Bull St seems to be gaining a lot of momentum.

Spartanburg continues to see a lot of development momentum along Main and Morgan Square.  George Dean  and some other developers are doing a nice job renovating historic buildings while making new ones look cohesive, the AC is a great looking hotel.

So, all in all, even without a major city based in SC, the smaller ones are nice.  And, if you want to be in a major metro living in S.C., Fort Mill and Rock Hill are booming.
