cityboi
Took a walk in downtown Greensboro this Sunday morning. Southeastern Building now apartments. This building was also Greensboro's first "skyscraper". Dixie building on South Elm next to the Elm Street Center/future Westin Hotel. This is a gorgeous building that I could see being converted to a hotel like Hotel Indigo. Cincy's restaurant on the lower level, known for its chilly is one of downtown's oldest restaurants. Its been in operation since the 1980s. The Guilford Building built in 1926 was originally supposed to be a hotel. Instead it was a bank headquarters. Today small businesses lease space in the tower but I would like to eventually see it being converted to a mixed use hotel/apartment tower. Its thr tallest building in the south end of downtown. Many of these buildings were built in the 1800s. New digital kiosk with free wifi was just installed in the Southend district. Several have already been installed throughout downtown and are operational. Greensboro is the first North Carolina city to install these downtown. Boxcar Barcade. An 8 lane upscale bowling alley in being planned a block east. Mellow Mushroom The old Blue Bell mill. Future home of Centric Brands 911 Memorial. Actually steel from the World Trade Center twin towers. Hampton Inn and Suites Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. The 3,000 seat venue will be the largest performing arts center in the Carolinas. LeBauer Park and Center City Park Construction site of the Westin Greensboro/city parking deck on Davie Street. The 6 story city parking deck will stretch a block and will be lined with street level retail. A portion of the deck will be elevated over February One Place. On the other side of February One Place, the 6 story Westin Greensboro will sit on top of the 6 story deck (12 stories) the hotel will stand behind the Elm Street Center which is being renovated to serve as the hotel's conference center. 400 Bellemeade (Project Slugger) 9 story office tower going up overlooking the ballpark. First National Bank Triad regional headquarters will anchor the building with other offices and ground floor retail. Hyatt Place and Carroll at Bellemeade Apartments to the right in the photo below . I'm standing on the corner where developer Roy Carroll plans to build a 20-story office tower and next to that he's building a 9-story Aloft Hotel with rooftop pool and bar, a grocery store and 6 story apartments on top of street level retail and restaurants. The city of Greensboro is currently constructing an 8 story parking deck which will sit on the interior of his development and well also serve the parking needs for Project Slugger and the ballpark Ground work being done for the 8 story parking deck across the street. Notice it is inset from the road to allow for developer Roy Carroll's multi building high-rise development. This will surround the deck. The ballpark will certainly be surrounded by a lot of tall/dense development. Edited September 22, 2019 by cityboi
