I am surprised about this but I bet they can get another grocery tenant in there.  It is a great project.

Maybe Publix? It would be pretty much right in between the ones at High House/Davis, Kildaire Farm/Ten Ten, and Smoky Hollow.  Most of the other main grocers already have locations fairly close to here.

Looks like Wegmans in Holly Springs is on hold.   From Biz Journal

""As Wegmans deals with supply chain challenges while also reaching more customers through e-commerce, plans for a Holly Springs store are on an indefinite hold. The New York grocer entered the North Carolina market with a rapid succession of store openings in the Triangle between 2019 and 2021, but canceled plans for a second Cary location last spring. Meanwhile, the Holly Springs site has sat untouched for years. Wegmans said it has no plans to start construction on the Holly Springs store anytime soon and an opening date hasn't been set.""

my thoughts:  I do know they own the site and doubt they will give it up.  Their warehouse which got really delayed in VA because of community concerns is just now under construction.  (they should have chosen Oxford NC and it would have already been opened)

""But the four Wegmans Triangle stores have not been immune to the supply chain challenges and shortages seen over the past two years. Wegmans, with 106 stores currently operating, has only two active distribution centers – located in Rochester, New York, and Pottsville, Pennsylvania. A third, with plans to serve North Carolina stores, is coming to Hanover County, Virginia, but delays with the project have further exacerbated supply chain issues. “Like all retailers, our stores have been dealing with supply chain challenges for over two years now. Raw material and labor shortages as well as transportation constraints are impacting what customers are seeing on our shelves,” Wegmans spokeswoman Laura Camera said. “During this time, we’ve taken proactive steps to build up our inventory and leverage both Wegmans brand and national brand suppliers to ensure we have options available for our customers.”""

Gut instinct is the HS store is never built. Even hardened Wegmaniacs amongst us are growing weary of the trek to Morrisville from South Wake for regular grocery trips, and it sounds as if Wegmans is basing its decisions (Fenton/HS) largely on that store’s performance.

Publix will eventually build a store along the 55 corridor in HS or FV and absolutely kill it.

the rumors of Wegmans struggling or stores not crowded is unfounded.  With just 4 stores in the Triangle open they snagged 4th place in the grocery store share.  That is 4 stores and #4 in market share ahead of Lowes food, Publix etc.

""Wegmans, which entered the Triangle market in fall of 2019, is included in the area’s market share data for the first time by Chain Store Guide. Despite only having four stores, the New York-based grocer managed to draw business away from the top players in the Triangle’s two metro areas in 2021.  In the Raleigh metro (Wake, Johnston and Franklin counties), Wegmans held 5.24 percent of the market share in 2021 – behind only Walmart Supercenter (NYSE: WMT), Harris Teeter (NYSE: KR) and Food Lion. Collectively, Walmart and North Carolina-based Food Lion and Harris Teeter lost 3.16 percent of the market share from the previous year.""

so the talk of the Holly Springs store being cancelled forever is very premature.

I think it is distribution problems since all area stores being served by a Central PA warehouse as the Richmond VA warehouse has been so delayed (they should have built it in Oxford)

Wegmans in Holly Springs is still in the works but no construction date or opening date  projected  yet.

"""But now, more than three years later, no dirt has moved at the 12-acre site at the intersection of Route 55 and Ralph Stevens Road near South Park Village. A Wegmans spokesperson told the Triangle Business Journal the company has no update to share on the Holly Springs store but added that the store is still in the company's “future plans.”   “Our team spoke with Wegmans officials in January and they reported that they are planning to move forward with the project, but they do not have a firm start date at this time,” said Chris Hills, development services director for the Town of Holly Springs.""

Very interesting news from the Raleigh metro area on their top grocery  stores and shows how popular Wegmans is with only 3 open stores in Raleigh metro (other is in Chapel Hill)

Raleigh metro

1. Walmart 21.7%  18  stores

2. Harris Teeter 20.2%   38 stores

3. Food Lion 13.7%   64 stores

4. Wegmans 5.2% with only 3 stores  open (north Raleigh,  Wake Forest and Cary)
