Near the proposed Unity Park, The Furman Co. plans to sweeten a qualified opportunity zone with a $10 million project in the former Greenville Ice Cream Co. plant, constructed in 1923. Later expanded to 40,000 square feet, the facility — then a Borden factory — closed in 1989.

“The plan is to clean up the industrial property and preserve and renovate the historic structure as much as possible,” says Robert Poppleton, development manager at the real estate company whose portfolio includes the Claussen Bakery, Poe West and Keys Court.

“Those are all projects that are meaningful,” he says. “They’re community-building projects, in our opinion, that check a lot of boxes for us in sustainability and diversity, but also something that will pull the surrounding area into it.”

The project’s in predevelopment, with groundbreaking expected in 2021.

Where is this located? Sounds like a great project!

Nassau Street at West Washington Street. 711 West Washington Street to be exact almost directly across from the post office.

ahhh, thanks! I could picture the Borden mural, but I have never paid one lick of attention to that building. I'm really intrigued to see the impact of the park and all of this new interest in West Washington! The area around the train station will be exciting to watch!

I like it. Looks like they're going for a more modern unorthodox look. Looks clean.

I mean, it's a gym and a contemporary worship space. What do you expect, right? It's no different from what it's currently replacing. I will say that their current plans are WAY better than their initial renderings.

Lots of brand new survey stakes up at the site bounded by West Washington Street, Forest Street, and Shirley Street directly across from Amtrak/Norfolk Southern.

Same story for junk yard site next to Greater Greenville Sanitation across West Washington Street from Legacy Charter Elementary School.

Lots of new survey stakes now up on the site bounded by Nassau Street, West Washington Street, South Hudson Street, and Oscar Street.

Also, survey stakes now up on the KDS Properties site on West Washington Street between Trescott and Madison Streets.

It’s happening. It’s happening. :D
