Is there a possibility that they are getting ready to use it as a staging area to build 801 first, since it will have a garage?  That way, you already have the building constructed that will allow a parking space for anyone wanting one who will live in 900?

It may be preparation for muddy season to allow ease of use on the construction vehicles. Have we seen a final plan that would show depths, like on the other tower? @downtownresident, @smeagolsfree?

Pete, did you intend to refer to the 801 Church, Prime Tower?  That one will have a u/g garage as the rendering you linked shows. I think some here were trying to discern how much excavation will be needed for the 900 Church, Alcove Tower.

That is odd that the Sonder Hotel is the lot that is on the pemit. I wonder if it is actually supposed to be for the Ben West Library lot and Google maps is just off.

A quick look at the parcel viewer even has 814 as the Sonder, so that is very odd. They must  be just leasing space within the building as the permit does say building rehab.

If there aren't underground levels (parking or otherwise) then this is a working pad for constructing the foundation. Don't need to excavate to drive piles.
