Knoxville Center closing

Recommended Posts

This makes me sad.  Knoxville Center Mall (which I still call East Towne Mall) is closing for good, and the few remaining tenants will be forced to shut down by January 2020.  Since moving away from Knoxville 6 years ago I haven't had the opportunity to go back to the mall, but I spent many lunch breaks at the food court and saw a lot of movies at the Regal cinemas in the mall.  I had a friend who worked at the food court Chick-fil-a who always gave me a few extra chicken nuggets that I'd then sneak into the movie theater along with cookies from Mrs. Fields (later the Great American Cookie Co.) a couple of doors down.  I can't imagine what's going to become of that behemoth of a building.  But even the government offices and services are going to have to relocate out of the mall.
