Hey Folks,

I just wanted to let you guys know we did have to issue a ban on someone and I dont think it is important as to who it was. Its just a matter of continuing to stir the pot and cause discord on the board.

I do realize that we all have bad days, including myself, and end up sometimes showing our rear ends sometimes but most of the time that is forgiven on here. It takes a lot of consistent negative behavior or a few blatant disregard of the rules to go and get yourself banned. We as Moderators try to give a lot of extra chances and overlook a lot of crap that happens, but when hate or downright racist comments are made that are not true or consistent with honesty and truth, then we have to step in and throw the pot stirrer out with that pot.

This is not a free speech forum and never has been. When one group is put down because of their lifestyle choice, this color of their skin, the nation of their birth or their religion, etc., then as mods we have to step in and stomp so to speak. 

We keep the political and religious talk to a minimum and I do realize that some of the topics cannot be discussed with out bringing some of those topics into the mix. Just as long as you dont slam a person for being what ever they are. As far as politics we can disagree with where a certain politician stands locally as it relates to the built environment but discussing politics for the sake of politics or religion is sort of a loose cannon and can blow everyone involved up. I mean no mayor is going to be perfect and no state government is going to be perfect as we dont have a perfect form of government by any stretch of the imagination, but that is what makes us great is that we can agree to disagree and I think on here we can do that without becoming venomous. Lets just set the example of what really needs to happen!

I will say that 99.9% of you folks do a great job at self moderating which makes our job very easy and I will say if someone comes on and starts to disrupt, let us know. Sometimes I go through the topics very quickly and miss some of the comments. Just use the message function at the top of the page to reach one of the Mods.

Thankfully I missed the entire now-deleted conversation, but from that comment I can guess the offender and agree with the action taken.  Thanks, mods, for trying to keep this a civil place.

Glad that person was banned. I got tired of coming on here and seeing their negativity.

I'm a moderator at city-data and had to ban him from over there, too, several months ago.  I don't understand why some people thrive on being internet trolls.  Glad he was banned from urban planet, too.

Sorry to hear that. I think we overlook a lot of stuff on here to give extra chances, but alas some folks just dont play well with others. I am sure they are very nice if you meet them face to face, however the internet gives folks the power of anonymity and empowers many folks to things they would never do in a face to face encounter.

This is why we encourage everyone to come to the forum meets to get to know one another. Sometimes we can have a knock down drag out there, but we always leave as friends and respect each other and know we can go out and have a beer and celebrate the differences we have.

I was wondering what the deleted content was, can't say I'm surprised. If you look at his profile it's just a collection of downvotes he's received, trollish posts, and borderline racist rants. Why waste your time acting like that on a rather niche, benign forum? If he was also banned at city-data, he's quickly running out of active urban development forums to be a part of.

Makes me remember the old days when there were certain mods who were quick to suspend or ban people for little or no reason (yeah, I got hit a few times). It's MUCH better now that they aren't lurking around.

Also, have I really been here for 15 years???

You must have joined up about the same time I did.  And yes...that ban hammer was quick and decisive back then.  Yikes.
