West Raleigh

The western area of Raleigh along Blue Ridge Rd, Edwards Mill Rd, and around the PNC Arena is booming with office and residential density.

 

Many office buildings are 4 stories in this area, with some, such as this new one, are hitting 6 stories.  This one is being built in the construction area in the above shot. 

Ground level retail is also becoming more common.  This part of Raleigh is a bit isolated but is picking up critical mass to support it's own eco-system of employment, shopping and residential.

I'm glad you posted this. I used to live at the Parke at Trinity apartments, right next to this Wade Park development. I think it is a fantastic development - this type of smaller scaled mixed-use development is exactly what we need more of. They don't all need to be some extravagant $1bn venture with high end boutiques on the ground floor.

A new 7-story, 165-room Hilton Garden  Inn has also been announced for the Wade development. It isn't under construction yet, but is supposed to open in 2021, so should break ground pretty soon. 

A couple other office buildings recently broke ground nearby. I'd like to see a little more retail, especially restaurants.

Agree another restaurant or 2, and a drug store CVS or some kind of corner convenience store. I believe the hotel will be going up on this lot:

There's already a HGI hotel at the Aviation Pkwy exit, which is only 4-5 miles away. Surprised another one is being built so close. A different brand would be better for that site. Maybe a Courtyard by Marriott or Doubletree.

Nothing official yet, but some state owned land in West Raleigh along Blue Ridge Road  is being considered for the new headquarters for the NC DHHS.

And it hasn't been discussed in this thread, but the new Bandwidth HQ is going nearby on Edwards Mill.

Plus NC Department of Agriculture Science Center and UNC Rex Cancer Center are both currently under construction.
