Hey all, I just noticed this thread was pinned. Some of you already know me, but for those who don't:

Who Am I ...

I moved here with my wife and Dalmatian in July of 2003. I found this site a year or so later. Its absolutely kept me in the loop and in love with Greenville. Its funny, if anyone at work has a question about Greenville, they come ask me.

Hi!

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm so glad I stumbled onto this forum. I live in Los Angeles now. Life threw me a curve ball, and I need to change careers, which is leading to a move across country for me. Major upheaval. This was not how I expected to turn 50! But you know that saying, one door closes and a window opens (or something like that). So I believe that there's going to be something better out of this whole experience.

I originally was looking to settle in Charlotte, NC, but when I took a trip out there last month, it felt much like Los Angeles. I was surprised because the population is so much smaller, but it's traffickey and sprawling like L.A. Real estate was more expensive than I thought, and taxes. Plus, it's growing fast - like scarey fast, it seems to me.

Then I started researching Greenville, and really like what I'm finding out about it so far! The pictures on this forum are wonderful. It looks so beautiful and clean. Small town feel, but not too small. I'm hoping this will be a better fit for me.

Okay, this is my first post. I guess now for all my questions, I'll head over to one of the other sections.

Cheryl

Welcome to the forum, Cheryl! Glad to have you on board here! As you can see, we are very enthusiastic about this city, and if you have ANY questions, we'll do our very best to answer them for you. I hope life will become less difficult once you've moved to this area. We have sprawl like every city, but there are also many quality elements you cannot find in most places. I am looking forward to reading your questions! :D

Just wanted to say what a great site this is and what a beautiful city Greenville is. When I first visited my fiance here after we graduated from college I knew where I was headed to next. 4 months later I was packed in a u-haul heading to Greenville. Since my girlfriend and I are both transplants, if anyone knows of anything going on let me know. I find it really hard to make friends in the area. Seems like most people are high school friends and dont stray from that pack.

Welcome, Tony (BigTone)! Great to have you on board and along for the ride! :D

How long have you lived in the Upstate? I am actually surprised and disappointed to hear that you've had trouble making friends with the locals. :( What would you say is responsible for this? I have made quite a few friends playing golf in the area, so that is one method to consider - if you don't take the game too seriously, of course. ;)

Hey, BigTone! I'm late, but welcome aboard!

I've been here for going on six years now and I've made very few friends, myself. I think that has a lot to do with my introverted nature, though, more than anything else (yes, in spite of my activity on the forum, I am very much an introvert). Don't get me wrong. I've met and spoken to a LOT of very nice people since I've lived here; however, I'm just not the kinda of guy to give out my number and say, "call me some time if you want to grab a beer and have a chat." My wife's the same way. Outside of this dice game she and the ladies from our neighborhood play (Bunco) and Girl Scouts, she keeps to herself, too. Our kids, on the other hand, are budding social butterflies. Go figure.

All I can tell you about what's going on is just keep an eye on the Greenville City Events calendar and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with someone while you're out and about town. Good Luck!

I've been reading this forum for a while, but never was compelled to join until I saw that some of my Flickr contacts posted here. I'm a 33yr old guy with a 2 yr old son, married to a fellow Greenville native. I've lived all around the Upstate (sugar tit, pelham rd, pelzer) and currently live in Mauldin. I'm an average photographer, doing the best I can with crappy equipment. I care about the direction my city and county are going in, but really don't fit the mold of average Greenville native. I hate talking about myself (and yet I have a blog. How ironic is that?) so any questions, feel free to ask me.
