I'm guessing that the original Nov. 1, 2021, opening date is out of the question now? I drive by this location about once a week -- I rarely see anybody on-site, and progress seems to be painfully slow.

Either they are purposefully "slow-walking" the construction because they think hotel demand is 2 years away from returning, or they ran into some funding issues.

Interesting!  Thanks for sharing this news...  It seems like we might be somewhat distant from a return to the levels of demand we saw pre-pandemic.   I can't wait to see what this summer is like... I'm sure all hotels are hoping for a major rebound.

I wonder what the housing demand is for downtown? I'm under the impression that demand is high.  I wonder how long these guys will wait.

Housing demand in Nashville everywhere right now is off the charts. There are more realtors than listings and what listing there are, are only on the market for a short time. Prices are rising, apartments are filling with around 20 to 30 thousand either proposed or UC just around the core. Mark has the numbers. The housing demand is high for all of Middle TN.

They cant build fast enough. They cant build the homes fast enough either. Tourism seems to have come back with a vengeance as well. Tons of folks back downtown. The only things that have not come back are the conventions and the big concerts.

With housing demand so strong, I wonder why the 18-story apartments next to the Grand Hyatt haven't been started. Maybe they are waiting for other parts of that project to get going.  But it seems like a lost opportunity.

I'm not sure strong housing demand always turns into strong rental demand.  A lot of buyers want to own the real-estate so they can participate in this price appreciation we are seeing.  That's why we need more condos downtown.

William Williams at The Nashville Post did an update on the lack of activity on this project over the past 1.5 years.  Essentially, and sadly, there is nothing new to report.

This is where a "blight tax" or some form of penalty for starting a project and stopping it should be allowed. Just such a disgrace that this is allowed to be open and allowed to further deteriorate for years on end.

A blight tax of 50% per year on assessed property value and that will be an incentive to get his rear in gear. He will sell or build if a project stands incomplete.

It looks like this may bet underway again soon after being stalled since 2021, but now as a Holiday Inn Express instead of a Radisson Red Hotel.  A new permit has been applied for in regards to water and sewer capacity, still shows the finished structure to be 11 stories with 116 rooms. Manek is still the developer; SV Design still the architect; Kimley-Horn oversees engineering.
