Some new video footage of tornado ripping thru Germantown:

Also, the damage to these sites in Germantown/North Capital area might spur razing these sites completely, thus opening the door for their quicker redevelopment:

Dept. of Children's Services and Dept. of Food Stamps buildings on the full block on 2nd Ave. North between  Jefferson St. and Stockyard St. covers several acres.  Will be interesting to see if these government agencies rebuild here, and if they do so in more compact structures, allowing for development of this valuable land:

The H.G. Hill Realty site on the full block along Jefferson St., between 4th and 5th Avenues North was wiped out.  The company has been rumored to want to construct one of its mixed-use projects here:

300 Jefferson St. (NW corner of Jefferson and 3rd Ave. North) has been slated for a mixed-use residential project by Cottingham Capital Partners:

Picture 1 & 2: Hopefully it will not be rebuilt at the current location. That location is much more valuable than what was there.

Picture 3: This is owned by HG Hill and the building would have come down at some point, so the tornado just moved the process along.

Picture 4: This building was supposed to come down for a apartment building, so no loss. Hopefully when all the COVID CRAP is over this apartment building will be built.

I hope everyone is monitoring tonight’s weather.  Some people posted after March 3 that there was not enough warning about the possibility of severe weather that night.    There are warnings for storms tonight arriving roughly the same time as the 3/3 storms.     The % likelihood tonight is actually higher.  Please set an alert app before you go to bed.    Stay safe everyone.

Update on Germantown damage.

624 Jefferson.  Sadly, this historic structure is so damaged, it is unsalvageable.

I drove thru East Nashville for the first time since the tornado last week.  In most cases, the damage is still present, especially the businesses. A lot of sites just roped off with little evidence of work being done.  Two buildings that were completely destroyed have now been razed, and the sites scraped clean. Bot a prime locations.

The former 6,800 sq. ft., single floor Family Dollar store at 1000 Woodland was completely decimated.  It was to become home to a new sports bar called Brewsters.  No word on what the owners plan now.  Looking SE from intersection of Woodland St. and South 10th St:

The 1 floor brick storefront at 918 Main St. that was home to Molly Green women's clothing was leveled by the storm.  Now swept clean.  No word on what's next.  Looking SW from intersection of Main St. and Mcferrin Ave:

I really think with Covid and the tornado the codes department is a bit understaffed and overwhelmed. I am watching the specific tornado permits pretty closely and think one of the issues could be the fact that a lot of companies may not be working as much either.

It's also a slow process when you have to deal with The Historic Commision as well. I cant remember if they meet once a month or twice a month.

Is that something that can/will be restored or do you think it'll stay in that condition?

I can, or rather hope, the main castle building can and should be restored. But the wings with the prison cells may have to come down, especially now that it's exposed to the elements.

953 Main St. on .4 acre  that houses East End Chiropractic and Star Physical Therapy  is being repaired from the March 3rd tornado via a $400,000 permit by Powell Architecture and Building Studio.

It still blows my mind how low the number of fatalities were from this specific tornado given the densely populated areas it went through at 1245am.  Its just painful seeing the decimated tree canopy in East Nashville in Five Points, particularly Holly Street.

Early warning technologies have improved significantly in the last decade. Thankfully, even with the minimal warnings, the 1998 tornado only resulted in one fatality in Davidson County.
