I honestly cannot tell if these people are real.

This was a segment on Bill Maher, and the person who filmed this wanted to make sure people who watched this know that they didn't just cherry pick which interviews they showed or seek anyone out to do these interviews. They said they just walked around Mississippi with a camera and interviewed whoever wanted to be on camera.

Sure, thats why its heavily edited and not showing any entire interview, and just random segments. There is a crapload of these videos showing how stupid people are on both sides of the political isle.

On the topic of abortion, most people fall somewhere in the middle. Very few want the morning after pill and such banned, but many think its ridiculous that a complete viable baby could be aborted. Drawing the line of where to stop it is difficult, there just isn't a clear line, and there are good points on both sides. America literally had among the most liberal abortion policy in the world at the federal level, and it just seems to be moving more in line with what much of Europe is doing.

I love your optimism, but if the last 10 years have showed me anything, 20% of the population will push the discussion to the extreme. No abortion (or the morning after pill) under any circumstances in Mississippi, abortion up to when a child is 10 yeas old in New York.

Did you know our newest SCOTUS Justice is a Floridian? Ketanji Brown Jackson? She’s from Miami and graduated from Palmetto High School.

Thanks to Joe Henderson at Florida Politics

I'm so happy KBJ is a SCOTUS Justice. She's so classy, intelligent and has an impeccable resume. Thomas and Alito are both up there in age so hopefully a Democratic President will choose their replacement soon.

The madness that is the GQP continues:

‘Congressional District 14 candidate James Judge, running in the GOP Primary to face @KathyCastorFL in the fall, announces that he’ll be giving away AR-15s as part of a fundraiser “in defiance of House Democrat gun measures”’

Thankfully, Democrat Kathy Castor, whose family has one of the most respected names in Florida politics, is likely to be re-elected.

BoJo’s out in the UK. A tiny ray of sanity peeks out in Anglo civilization. Ever wondered why the Irish government haven’t fallen for the wackiness that befalls us and the Brits?

They have some weirdoes over there in parliament. None that I know of have been president. While it is lovely county, the brits are more dominant in world affairs so we hear about them.

In this piece by Sebastian Mallaby in The Washington Post about BoJo’s downfall, he also sums up the problem of America’s Republican Party in the Age of Trump:

”He eroded the presumption that British leaders should deal seriously with the nation’s business. He promised an alternative reality in which hard choices could be evaded.” Substitute Britain with America and it’s spot on for our travails.

Well, it looks like Twitter is spared from Elon (the “libertarian” who got much of the money for Tesla from the Obama administration and we’re not supposed to talk about all that NASA money for SpaceX).

Dueling lawsuits will ensue.

It will likely be a pricey failed attempt to "own the libs" by Elon. He's an impulsive blowhard just like Trump. He probably decided to buy Twitter on a whim and once his manic episode subsided he regretted it.

I think he is a visionary, who actually builds stuff, unlike Trump (do you know how hard it is to bankrupt a casino?), and you’re right he’s often waaay out there on the manic spectrum. It just makes me crazy when those on the right act like only they make their success and that the infrastructure of the whole country that we taxpayers helped build and pay for had nothing to do with it. Clue, Elon: It DoesTake a Village.

It’s not just your imagination- just as neighborhoods and even whole towns are becoming red or blue, so are corporations:

Companies are segregating politically — and it’s costing them
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/07/07/corporate-democratic-republican-partisanship/

From The Washington Post

I still think it’s humorous that Target’s primary marketing and branding color is red when they are generally perceived as a progressive company while Walmart’s just the opposite with a primary  blue identification despite a perception of leaning more rightward.

Target’s colors actually go back before the current party colors first appeared on network Election Night broadcasts decades ago (it’s been noted the colors representing right and left are the opposite in most of the world), but Walmart revamped its logo/branding well after the network colors were in play.

In a Norman Rockwell New Hampshire town , everyday folks learn they have to show up to keep the wingnuts at bay:

From The New York Times

It’s a lesson that Orlando needs with its 9-13% turnouts slowly destroying everything that has made the community special.

Another lesson - the wingnuts who benefited from everything public facilities could offer them are the very ones who refuse to allow those benefits to the next generation. It’s pure selfishness in its worst form. I’m becoming more and more ashamed to have to be associated with Boomers.

‘According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, this is how Herschel Walker explained his views on climate change to a group of Republican activists: “We don’t control the air. Our good air decided to float over to China’s bad air. So when China gets our good air, their bad air has got to move. So it moves over to our good air space. Then, now, we’ve got we to clean that back up.”’

This is the GOP. To make matters worse, he’s endorsed by The Donald

Had enough?

Herschel Walker's what's called "dangerously stupid."

It’s painfully slow, but Cheetohead’s influence is declining among the remotely sane end of the MAGA spectrum.

Given DeSantis’ authoritarian tendencies that too much of the GOP prefer to democracy, that may not mean much. Today, however, we’ll be grateful.

“A statue of Mary McLeod Bethune was unveiled Wednesday in the U.S. Capitol, making her the first Black American in the National Statuary Hall collection. Bethune was a civil rights activist, a presidential adviser and the founder of the Daytona Literary and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls, which became Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach. Her statue represents the state of Florida.”
