Well, there will be another vote in November on a casino in Richmond!  The City pulled off another chance.  I wonder how the education piece of this will go down.  I foresee a huge fight in the media between now and election day in November.  It's amazing that people still are very uneducated about this development.  Same thing happened to the Navy Hill project - frustrating:

I'm wondering if they shouldn't hire a different PR firm. Less purple billboards and glossy mailers, more outreach and education in the areas where they fell short on votes.

That would be nice.  The insane oversaturation of billboards was likely a turnoff for some.

this will be so Richmond if the 2nd time is no by a wider margin.

As a previous (and very vocal) NO voter, I will be voting YES.

My thought process is southern RVA "area" is getting a casino whether it's in southside RVA or Petersburg due to Senator Joe Morrissey. Might as well get the tax benefits for our schools. I'm voting YES this time.

This is a mess.  Thanks to affluent of this damn city ruining our chances of economic advancement (as per usual), we now have this hurdle.  Also, Morrissey is working my nerves.

I can't facepalm or roll my eyes hard enough at this mess. Just unreal.

Morrissey has been working the nerves of Central Virginians now for decades, my friend!

BREAKING NEWS from WRIC 8 -- developers of the Urban One casino are pulling the plug on pushing ahead with any further attempts at a November referrendum - opting to wait it out until 2023.

Also, a group of lawmakers asked the governor to block them from perusing a second referendum.

state Sen. Joe Morrissey, D-Richmond and Del. Kim Taylor, R-Dinwiddie, sent a letter asking Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin to intervene, saying state legislation adopted by the General Assembly earlier this year prohibits it.

The following betting strategy on horse racing, according to legend, was invented by the chief accountant of an American gangster. Its essence is that the player finds races where odds offered by betting platforms Australia on favorites are overstated and fluctuate around 4.00. Then a bet is made on several favorites at once. If one horse wins, the player is in the black.

I’ve had this thought recently, started when they tore down or are tearing down the blighted hotel that fronts the interstate in Petersburg, why not put the casino in Petersburg? I know revenue loss, etc. but talk about a shot in the arm for a place that really needs it, plus, the tri-cities regions corridor could legitimately start there, easy access and 2 interstates, has potential.

I agree, as long as it’s visible from the interstate. The plot of land that the condemned hotel sits on (that is about to be torn down) would be a perfect location, but the plot is too small.  Heard that they were thinking about putting it an exit or two south of that location. Not sure I like that idea because it won’t be as visible from the interstate.  You are right though, this could be a boon for the Petersburg area. Would love to see that part of the RVA metro boom!

Yeah, visibility is what I’d like to see as well, too bad that location where it’s being torn down isn’t big enough, hopefully they find a good visible spot.

I haven’t heard the Richmond location is dead. Did I miss that?

No, you’re right, but I thought that Petersburg might get a crack at it first, since Richmond voted it down. I think there are a few hurdles to overcome first before serious consideration is given to a Petersburg location…to include having the General Assembly/State allow it in Petersburg. Only 5 locations were originally approved for a casino.  Richmond was one of the locations, Petersburg was not.

No, was just thinking out loud about why not in Petersburg, if any area could use a shot in the arm it’s them.

It appears they are delaying the process for another year. I think they want time to get things figured out first. Richmond is still in play.
