Okay so since Petersburg isn’t happening, do you want Richmond to have another shot?

I'm really sort of agnostic who gets the casino, but I'd like to see one in the Metro area...somewhere.   Petersburg is dead now...Richmond is probably the only hope right now.  I liked the Petersburg plan though - location was good, it was big and would bring life to the southside of the Metro area.  It would have been a destination for sure...and not a lot of people living on that side of town, so probably not a lot of opposition.

Petersburg had a GREAT plan in place. It's a shame the General Assembly torpedoed it - who knows what a huge lift it might've been for the Tri-Cities.

Politicians want the casino in Richmond is my guess. Now, the people have to agree and I hope they do this time. Legalize weed but no gambling, come on.
I do want Petersburg to do well and hope it’s just a matter of time until it’s their turn at something great.

Have to ask this but what happens if they shoot Richmond down too? Who’s up next? Nova ?

Honestly, I'm not sure - this whole process has been insane from the beginning.

But your question brings to mind another question - with ALL of this rigmarole happening, do the Pamunkey have ANY leverage to use the federal route to get in with their casino on land they already own? (Recall the site off of Commerce Road)... and is that dependent on a referendum's approval at all - or is that something that might invite legal challenges?

You know, this reminded me that the Pamunkey Tribe can still build a casino in Richmond by right via federal law. The process to go through all the wickets for approval (I understand) is lengthy and arduous (based on what I read back when they were still in the running to build a casino in Richmond).  Not sure if the tribe is still willing to go through the process, but if they are, it might take a few years before shovels even hit the dirt.

Bottom Line:  If no casino is approved via referendum in Richmond, there is still the possibility that the Pamunkey will build one, even without the consent of the citizens of Richmond.

That's what I thought might be the case. Longer process - but more potentially guaranteed results.

And it's back...

"Richmond City Council will likely consider and act on the newly introduced paper in June. If it is approved, the Virginia Lottery and Richmond Circuit Court will have to accept the referendum before it is placed on the ballot in November 2023".

This thing is like Jason or Michael Myers - or the vampire that keeps coming back no matter how many stakes or silver bullets he takes. Wow...

I’d rather Petersburg get it.
I liked the Urban One location too.

Richmond’s core is going gangbusters.  It’s time to spread the prosperity out a little bit.  A thriving Petersburg would do more for the Richmond region than a casino in the downtown area.

I’ll be a “yes” vote again regardless (unless they try to put it near Scott’s Addition).

I honestly think that RVA can manage a casino much better than Petersburg. We are bigger, stronger, and more funded to fight and regulate a casino - tame them in their tracks. As oppose to Petersburg who I think will get steamrolled by the casino and be nothing but all bark and no bite when it comes to regulating and managing the casino...once it gets built. It won't be good for my boy Petey.

Following last week's approval from the Virginia Lottery, the Richmond Circuit Court has issued a ruling that green lights putting casino referendum redux on the November ballot. All of this, of course, is pending any further action by the General Assembly as they (allegedly) work to finalize the state budget.

Wouldn't you?  One of the reasons why I stepped away from that website in a while, a  bunch of noises. Nothing but assumptions about city government and the mayor failing to do it's job (kissing ass to the brats of the affluent).  Same ol' song,  same kind of singer.

Tell me something, when people complain like that, don't they realize a good portion of city government are no more than their next door neighbors?? 😔 Might as well say your neighbors don't care about you either.

I often wonder how many people who love to bash the City of Richmond actually live in the city.
