Façade work continues.

Looks like this project is already spurring some nearby action!

 

"NIPSEY'S TAVERN, LLC, intends to apply to the South Carolina Department of Revenue for a license and/or permit that will allow the sale and on premises consumption of beer, wine, and liquor at 318 UNION STREET, Spartanburg, SC 29306."

 

This is across the street from basically the Hot Spot Skate Park, and directly across from where Ricky's Drive-In used to be at.

 

It was formerly AVK Dance Studio, and, before that, Jazzexercise.

 

In the 3D pic it's the building off to the left. I included this angle to show the Denny's building for anchoring the location.

 

Apparently, it's replacing the former Clancy's. Before my time, but it seems many remember it fondly. 

 

Glad to see its doing a 360 and returning to a similar sort of establishemtn.

The website for The Fitzgerald has now been updated with more information about the apartments.  You can indicate your interest in leasing or taking a hard-hat tour.  There's also an explanation of how they learned the real namesake(s) of the street after deciding their name, and they detail that local history.  Interesting tidbit for an apartment website.

Interesting to see how this view compares to June 8th, the last time I photographed the project from this vantage point.

Kennedy Street façade painted and new sidewalk poured.  Work continues on the various stoop stairs.  Curbing is installed in the parking lot.

Getting very close to completion.  Landscaping is going in.  Interior finishing and light fixtures appear to be nearly complete.  Just need to pave the parking lot, fill the pool, and finish a few details.  Maybe a month from opening?

There's plenty: 155 spaces for 132 units (1BR- 101, 2BR- 30, 3BR- 1).

The Fitzgerald is nearly complete and residents will start moving in soon.

I hope the completion of this apartment building will lead to more around, particularly to a greater walkability to the outside area around downtown, but I hope that future residential developments are mixed use instead of purely residential like this one

The Fitzgerald recently had its grand opening.  It's only been leasing for a month, and it's already 30% occupied.  It's mentioned that The Charles downtown is 100% occupied, so the apartment market is strong, and we could use more units.  Of course, the Boxcar Apartments (also by Lat Purser) by the Rail Yard are coming soon.
