But yes, lots of tech and government. I had no idea the FBI was pretty much moving almost everything there. A 1 Billion dollar campus is amazing. Lots happening with the Marshall Space Flight ctr, and the hypersonic misled/rocket program. Tone of mixed use projects.

L'burgnative
Dang that took some time, what brought you to do all that? I haven't been over to the Huntsville sub forum in years. @ titanhog yes Huntsville has a lot of tech jobs, Cummings Research Park here in Huntsville is the second largest research and development area in the country behind only Silicon Valley and the fourth largest in the world.
smeagolsfree
I forgot to add this one that is going into the MidCity project. This is the reason I started doing the list. No one really had been keeping up with things there, so I figured I would pull this together. I can work on this stuff pretty quickly. I started compiling info on Wednesday a little at a time.and put most of it together on Saturday. This is the new Amphitheater planned.

East Side Urbanite
Ron with a truly impressive effort. If you folks knew how quickly and effectively he did this, your collective heads would spin. I told Ron this would have taken me three months to do. He seemingly knocked it out in three hours. LOTS happening in Huntsville. That city , Asheville and Chattanooga will be "competing" (loosely speaking) the next few years. Each one is on the move. 21jump
Also Alabama A&M has broken ground on a new event center/basketball arena. I'm not sure of the capacity.
satalac
Huntsville really is a hidden gem that many people don't realize has a ton going on with it. I drove down there last month to go pick up a knife at Cabelas (I was bored, it was either there or Bowling Green). The amount of big name companies in the area is eye opening. A lot of science and technology firms that would look at home in any major city.
smeagolsfree
Hey 21jump, can you post that over on the Huntsville thread, Please?
East Side Urbanite
Huntsville has a lot of fantastic qualities (strong craft beer scene, for example). Its main challenge — as most of us know — is to create better urban fabric and connectivity in the core. Downtown plays much more like a large Murfreeboro and a small Chattanooga. But that seems to be changing. I'm very impresses with all the activity. On 3/1/2021 at 4:41 PM, 21jump said: Also Alabama A&M has broken ground on a new event center/basketball arena. MLBrumby
Agreed!!! Wasn't going to say anything (for lack of confidence in my impression of H'ville) but you're one of the resident experts on urban fabric. I find it a very pleasant place in search of a core. It's doing very well (although didn't grow that much faster than Chattanooga in the last decade).

It brings with it a unique twist on the city that no other city of that size in America has.

That alone is a good reason to visit Huntsville!
Popular Post markhollin
Over the next several days I'll post pics from the trip to Hunstville, AL that Smeagolsfree and I took earlier this week. Here are some shots from the Mid City District, which is on the site of a former large shopping mall. It looks to be about 20% complete. Portions of the new 8,000 capacity outdoor amphitheater are rising: Closer to downtown there is a reimagining of the former Hunstville Times newspaper complex into a retail/office center with Whole Foods as the anchor: On the SW side of downtown is the Lowe Mill, a former fabric factory circa 1900 era that has been repurposed as an arts and entertainment district with 148 working studios for artisans, 6 art galleries, several eateries/bars, a community garden, and more: 4
