Woodlawn Station

I was at Rountree (no "d") garden center today on Scholtz Road. Corner of Scholtz and Old Pineville just south of Woodlawn Station. Frenzy of activity today. Electricians, brick veneer masons, interior carpenters, painters, framers, exterior trim carpenters and more. A tractor trailer with framing systems and trusses pulled in while I was there. Men using lift boom vehicles to transfer loads to staging areas, supervisor pointing, just much activity, so much that I could move about with no one asking my purpose. This is listed as NVR properties. I cannot recall this being mentioned here but there appears to be no Woodlawn station thread so I begin one. Woodlawn station is easy walk distance north of this location.

Single car garage with half bath on ground level. Up one level to kitchen. Private space one more level up. Builder grade inside and out, up and down.

 

Cabinets are in. Caulking woodwork prior to paint on right.

Truck arrives.

Across the street a locomotive idles. This is the end of the heavy rail line. ADM Vegetable refinery is across the street beyond rails.

The Scholtz family and Rountree own a several large pieces of property on Scholtz including immediately behind this project and on both sides of the street. If they sell this could be a big project. 

The Scholtz family had a florist business in downtown Charlotte circa 1910. At some point thereabout they moved to a home on East Boulevard and bought land a bit further down East to use as a greenhouse to provide their supply. The retail florist business declined but the retail greenhouse remained. I bought a thing or two there. It is the land where the Dilworth Gardens shopping center is today. Floral Avenue is named for their business and the entrance to their greenhouse was on Floral. This continued until about 1985 (or so) when they sold and moved their  business to the current location and built a road to serve it which ends at a wooded area overlooking I-77 today. There is another NS active line behind them on the I-77 side. The current operators are a third or fourth generation of Scholtz, about my age (old).

I am sure there have been overtures to her/them about selling some or all their property. This is an amazing local business to last for this length of time. 

Prepare for big things in this area.

Well, well, what have we here? Charlotte Ledger reports a rezoning request for eight parcels and 4.4 acres on Rountree Road :

2021-105. Carolina Capital Real Estate Partners. 4.4 acres on 8 parcels at 517 Roundtree Road from I-2 to TOD-CC. “Allow for transit supportive uses.” Rezoning agent: Moore & Van Allen.

This area does seem to have some momentum.  Anyone know what that massive Apartment Complex is named or who the Developer is and how many units?  Its adjacent to I-77\Woodlawn and behind that Mexican restaurant
