FORUM CHANGES

Hey Guys,

The mods have gotten together on a Web ex call for a first time meeting to make a few changes and add a moderator. We want to WELCOME Craig, Bos2Nash as a moderator. It may take a couple of days for the power to become effective.

I also want to thank Bob LA_TN, Taylor, downtownresident, & Brian, Predsboy18 who will be helping me with the Development Map. Too much to handle for one person now!

I just wanted to let everyone know that there are changes to the forum structure taking place. We are Merging several threads and will be permanent after 30 days.

We have not done this for a while, but it is going to reduce the number of pinned threads at the top of the main page.  So please bear with us on these changes and pay attention to where the new boundaries of the new areas are.

The Downtown thread will now cover a much larger area as are the other threads.

On behalf of all the moderators, thanks for all of the support you guys give us and if you have any questions please PM any of us!

A bit more elucidation on our new structure.

We have consolidated zones for the pinned topics to allow quicker access to  individual project threads and the new structure follows.

Inner Belt - this now includes the CBD, Gulch, Nashville Yards, Germantown, etc. Basically, anything within the interstates that encompass downtown, including the East Bank.

The next major restructure is consolidating Midtown, effectively from 40W to 440 down and around to 24W and back up to 40. 

The West side is designated Davidson West. This quadrant is I-65S from 440 down to Brentwood, over to Bellevue along OHB, and back up to the Nations, TSU, Mmetrocenter, etc. 

The Southeast remains unchanged

East Nashville, is Madison, Old Hickory, Donelson, to the county line at the lake and back along 40E

During the pinned thread cleanup, do expect to see an arrow pointing <- that way. It will live until 30 days from today, and will automatically link you to the revised threads outlined above. They will disappear on day 31.

 

Please keep this in mind when posting, surrounding counties, Bits & Pieces, etc will remain. Transit has been unpinned because this city legitimately can't get it's collective head out of the sand and get beyond study after study.

We have a few other things working in the pipeline and will be making adjustments in flight. Stay tuned to posts here about correspondents and other activities that will continue to drive UP Nashville to be the best damn representation of any city's urban progress on the internet. We couldn't do it without your support and appreciate every single one of you for your furthering discussion and contribution through the years. Lurkers, that means you too.

Good morning folks,

Just want to let you know that there will be no changes to the Coffee House. I sort of wanted to see more activity there but it seems topics go there to die. 

If you guys want more activity there, I suggest you start you start your threads and self monitor yourselves and encourage discussions. I figure a number of you never go there but it is designed for off topics other than growth and development issues that may or may not concern Nashville.

As Mods we barely have enough time to read all of the post on the threads in this forum and respond and actually enjoy ourselves, much less the Coffee House.

Another reason for some of the changes especially for me is I have been doing this for 16 years and I need to slow down. I am a little tired and a lot of my work ends up here in a round about way and I do a lot of behind the scenes stuff you guys never know about, thus the Magic Eight Ball. I do see a lot of things before it hits the papers or here about a number of things that could be rumor's or have a lot of truth to them and I just can't say anything.

For every one thing I hear about I can bet you there are ten things that are floating around that I do  not hear about that are brewing or never happen. So when you guys say come on spill the beans I can't but I can give the wink wink if I know something will be coming in the next week or so.

Mark is going to have some major information to share that he needs help with, so I encourage anyone that can help him to please step up to the plate and HELP!

As we moderators were kicking around ideas last week, the concept of "area correspondents" came up.  These would be folks who volunteer to regularly contribute info to the the threads within their areas like:

1) Photos taken of construction sites at least once every 60 days. Smeagolsfree's excellent development map is a tremendous resource to scroll around and see what is planned or actually underway. A "circuit" through any of the areas listed below would entail  a couple dozen sites and could reasonably be done in 1 to 2 hours.   I'll be glad to give some simple training and techniques on how to keep things organized.

2) Report via new posts on any new developments you learn about via public meetings, local press, websites,  and--if you are particularly curious--internet searches for building permits, etc.

At Urban Planet Nashville, we look at the forum as a living chronological document that keeps an ongoing history of development in/around Nashville.  By regularly updating progress on new projects, it will give tremendous context in years to come about who, what how, when, where, and even why structures came to be.  We are providing a service to placemaking history.  By showing this level of care, we have become one of the most popular U.P. sites in the world.

Here are the areas where we could use help via correspondents:

- Antioch/Smyrna

- East Nashville/Madison

- Donelson/Hermitage

- Charlotte Pike/The Nations/Bellevue

- West Trinity Lane/Bordeaux/North Nashville

- Brentwood/Cool Springs/Franklin/Williamson County

-  Murfreesboro/Rutherford County

- Mt. Juliet/Lebanon

- Hendersonville/Gallatin/Sumner County

I generally don't mind regularly keeping up with Downtown, WeHo,  Germantown, North Nashville, Charlotte Ave., Midtown, Green Hills, and 8th/12th corridor myself.  But I am always open to anyone contributing photos and info from these areas at any time.  : )

So...if you are interested, shoot me a personal message and then I can give you some more specifics, and would be glad to show you the ropes.  It can be quite fun.  : )
