The lost of a tower hurts a bit  but makes feasible sense. In all, Im still thrilled about this and looking forward to our skyline expansion southward. 

They appear fairly equal in height. The quotes from the article said res would be no taller than 45 stories and the original office was calling for 42 floors. Did it lose any floors in office?

Will there be retail along Morehead Square Dr.? It has good presence on all other three sides, but looking at the new renderings makes me think that'll be the dead zone.

This is great news! I have thought since the original announcement that they would be better off to  build taller, and only two towers, instead of three. It takes more of everything (both construction and after) to build three shorter towers.

Also looks like the office tower was rotated 180 degrees. While the water table may have been a factor, I do think it has more to do with overall project costs - above ground parking is much cheaper, axe a whole building, and shorten the office component. I don't recall seeing the Morehead Square street level in the original renderings so not sure if it had the same garage access only frontage. Still an overall great project, but I will second whomever said the architects drew a Ferrari on a Lexus budget - it proved to be a bit too grand for Charlotte and the current economic trends.

that might have been more tenant driven as those little bumps out were not that usable but costly to do.  I remember seeing that on their teaser of the office tower

I am still impressed with the design with the large balconies for the office tower every couple floors facing uptown.

I’m surprised how they simplified the plan and yet I like this plan better! Combining the smaller towers to make a taller larger one is ultimately more efficient while still getting what they need! This is awesome, the new renderings look great!

Good grief, south end can pull a 45-story luxury residential tower paired with a 42-story office high-rise and still can’t get a decent destination hotel announced anywhere in the hood.  Can’t be a destination entertainment spot until there’s at least one, right?

sorry if was this is implicit, but does the consolidation of the towers speed up the project completion date? i saw 2025 but didn't know what the original estimate was.

btw - idk why but seeing projects like these come to fruition makes me kind of emotional. it's amazing seeing this city grow the way that it is. such a wonderful time to live in this beautiful city!

2 are planned one at Vantage Southend and have heard they have an operator and one is also planned at Carson Southend across the street as a part of that project.

Still looks amazing and I'm happy there's still a demand for office space.  WRT the water table issue, this may be even more reason to just go ahead and flood 277 right?  The water source appears to already be in place!

I said the same thing to someone channel the water and you would have a waterfall onto 277!

I’m assuming this lot and parking decks days are dwindling quickly. Would this be the spot for the potential site of the hotel mentioned on this projects initial announcement?

The Buildings look better consolidated. The office building looked kind of weird in the middle of the parking structure. Seems more complicated to build. Though I will say that the deck itself looks more noticeable unfortunately. And at least this could be finished faster.

I noticed that too, I’m thinking Queensbridge borrowed a model from Carson South End to add the reference.

Changes to $750 million South End towers project will produce an even taller building

A Chicago developer said Tuesday it has dropped plans for a third tower at its $750 million project on the edge of South End. But the project still will be one of the largest underway in Charlotte, with two towers soaring above 40 stories each. Riverside Investment and Development first announced the project in November. The 3-acre site sits at 1111 S. Tryon St. on the northern edge of South End leading into uptown, and is displacing the popular Midnight Diner….

 

Construction is expected to start before the end of the year. Work will not be done in two phases as initially planned. The towers will now start and finish together, with an expected completion date of mid-2025. This is Riverside’s first project in Charlotte. It plans to open an office here by the end of the month, although Scacco declined to say how many employees will be here yet….

 

The residential tower now will be 45 stories and include more than 400 apartments, Scacco said. Riverside increased the average size of the apartments to 1,000 square feet, up from around 850. Having two towers instead of three means the office tower will have clearer views of the Charlotte skyline and better lighting….

“Eliminating one of the towers de-clutters the sight and enhances the conditions for the remaining buildings,” Scacco said. The office tower will still be 42 stories, although it will be taller than the apartment tower due to larger floor sizes….

It was the Biz Journal's scoop that was first I just posted it.

I am glad to hear this will be built as one phase so 2 40 story plus towers will be put together.   That is at least 4 cranes if not more there. 

I guess next question when is the wrecking ball coming to the Uptown Cabaret?

Yes it is Crescent's CarsonSouthend tower.  I think they are including for marketing reasons.  Look at how our tower is taller and since there is no building anywhere near this height in the area it is a comparison to show how dominating this project will be on the skyline outside the loop and for that matter the uptown skyline.

Apparently, Truist is leasing 100k sf in “the very large city that shall go nameless,” which is odd because it has no presence there, and I don’t believe that it has any investment banking divisions.  Anyway, if they’re gobbling up hyper-expensive space in the Forbidden City, perhaps it will add new space at this location to attract younger workers who appreciate the SouthEnd vibe.
