The digging continues and it seems to be pretty flat and even at the bottom now.  I don't know if they've reached the stopping point but I'll bet they're close.

If you’re concerned it’s going to be another lake Palmer you can lay your fears aside.   If the pit is getting dug you can assume it’s under construction with this developer.

I may have answered archilove’s question prematurely.  On SSP they are questioning when the “actual” construction will start.   Now I’m wondering if this will go on hold like Amazon 3.?

Amazon 3 was a proposed commercial office tower--100% office. They have not built it due to the uneasy, weakened economic outlook. I think it will most likely come back and be built in another type of usage, like mixed office/residential/hotel, OR be built as an all office once the economy is more certain and a tenant is signed on/lined up. I'd guess we won't see this one starting construction though for at least 2-3 years-ish.

As for this skyscraper, 1010 Church Street, it is all residential, and the demand for downtown Nashville residential is red hot. The developer is Tony Giarratana, and he has a huge successful track record in Nashville with building residential skyscrapers. 

This one will be built, and I'd expect "steel in the sky" to start happening by late summer/early fall.

I believe the self-financed tower is 901 MLK. IIRC it was originally going to be all low-income utilizing Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), but now it is mostly market rate. 

I presume 1010 is more traditionally financed.

I'm not sure what those long bars are for, hopefully it means they're making progress and soon we'll see the end of the digging and the beginning of the foundation.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe these rods are drilled into the sidewalls of the hole to reinforce them. Many times they extend into the public ROW and  allows excavation teams to no have to over excavate - ie dig up the road - for these underground projects.

Those earth movers haven’t budged in days.  This “hole” looks way, way too shallow for a high rise.  Is this normal?  I’m beginning to wonder about this project.

It is a 60 story, 750 foot high tower. I live in New York City, and they are always building new skyscrapers. They can work on the foundational aspect of such tall skyscrapers for months on end, without it seemingly being very noticeable that progress is being made, to those who pass by and who aren't working on the project.

To judge this project by saying "it hasn't budged in days" is to not understand what goes into construction of such a tall building. They are working pretty briskly on this, and it is making fast progress. Especially since they really only began foundation work in winter this year, 2023, and now it is only June, 4 months later.

Since Giarratana is behind this project, and since it is an all-residential building, it will be built. I'd expect us to see actual steel at street level in the fall of this year. 

Super exciting to watch this one rise!

Wow!  That’s unbelievably shallow.  I hope it’s because that area has bedrock just below the surface.  The Millennium Tower in San Francisco  has started tilting and they’re having to spend hundreds of millions to stop the tilt.

Bedrock is nowhere near an issue in this part of downtown. Really the only part of the CBD that has an issue is where The Pinnacle, Four Seasons, etc. are, and that's where water wound up deepest in the flood for that part of downtown.

EVERTHING in Nashville downtown is on bedrock.  The Nashville Basin rests on a dome of Ordovician limestone which is up to 1000 feet thick.  The only problem is in this karst topography, caves do exist.  They found the smiladon  bones in one back when they were excavatin the UBS building, hence the Preds mascot.  One of the worst I know about was on the Vanderbilt campus for the Science tower 40 or so years ago.  In excavating the foundation, the excavator brock through a relatively small hole in the limestone.  No problem, right?  after dumping 3 trucks of concrete in it , someone decided they had better take a look. An emourmous room 70 feet deep and more than  the entire footprint of the tower.  1000 trucks would not have made a dent in filling it!.  They re-enginered a floating slab foundation   to span the cave. and built the tower on it.   I am going to presume that Tony has drilled core samples to verify that there is no cavern that would affect the foundations.
