It is great to be on this list from Business Facilities magazine a trade pub for economic development:

Ford, Samsung Electronics, KORE Power Named
Business Facilities' 2021 Deals Of The Year

RED BANK, NJ – January 12, 2022 –  Ford Motor Company, Samsung Electronics and KORE Power have been selected as 2021’s top Deals of the Year by Business Facilities magazine. A committee of nationally-recognized site consultants selected this year’s winners. Due to the high number of deals that were completed in 2021, this year’s awards competition brought in a record-setting number of submissions.

The Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development earned Business Facilities’ Gold Deal of the Year Award for bringing Ford Motor Company’s Blue Oval City project to Memphis. One of the U.S.’ largest battery and vehicle manufacturing campuses, the 3,600-acre mega campus will result in 5,800 new jobs in West Tennessee. All told, Ford–working with SK Innovation–will invest about $5.6 billion in the project that will include building the Ford assembly plant, a supplier park, and a battery manufacturing plant at the Memphis Regional Megasite.

Ford and Tennessee government officials estimate that the project will generate more than 27,000 direct and indirect jobs to support the site’s operations, and also create more than $1 billion in annual earnings. As part of this initiative, Ford will also build a dedicated battery manufacturing complex with SK Innovation — the $5.8 billion BlueOvalSK Battery Park — creating 5,000 jobs in central Kentucky.

Business Facilities Silver Award goes to Taylor Economic Development Corporation for Samsung Electronics’ new state of the art, semi-conductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas. In late November, the company and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Samsung would make an estimated $17 billion investment in the facility, which would be the largest foreign direct investment in Texas on record. The 1,200 acre facility will be used to produce advanced logic chips that will power next-generation devices for such applications as mobile, 5G, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, and is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs. Construction will start this year and the facility should be operational by the second half of 2024.

The City of Buckeye, Arizona won the Bronze Award for bringing Idaho-based KORE Power’s new lithium-ion battery storage manufacturing facility to the city. The project will create about 1,700 advanced manufacturing jobs during phase one, another 1,300 jobs in phase two, plus nearly 3,400 construction jobs in the interim. KORE Power foresees almost $1.66 billion in direct economic output for the City of Buckeye over five years.

“This process was by far the most extensive and interesting one for us in years,” said Seth Mendelson, Editorial Director of Business Facilities. “We had so many worthy entries and so many huge projects announced during last year that we knew it was going to be difficult to pick three winners. Our judges did an admirable job of selecting these winners and we are proud to announce them in the pages of our magazine and on BusinessFacilities.com. In this notable group, Ford Motor Company, Samsung Electronics and KORE Power managed to stand out from the rest.”

Due to the high number of entries, as well as the changing dynamics in site selection, Business Facilities is also announcing winners across 18 different categories. Here are the winners of the 2021 Impact Awards:

from the Toyota North America CFO on their plans and expansion plans for Randolph county megasite from the Biz Journal:

""We were talking before the interview and you mentioned Toyota invests $1 million an hour globally in research and development. Can you elaborate on what that involves?

Toyota has one out of every four vehicles sold as an electric powered vehicle. But we're also making additional investments because we know this is the future. And so we recently announced in 2021 investments totaling more than $3 billion to help enhance our plants in Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia, to enhance the operational speed and our flexibility so that we can be more competitive in this space. And it adds more jobs. We also announced a new plant in Greensboro, North Carolina, for production of manufacturing of batteries starting in 2025.

Can you talk a little bit more about the Greensboro plan?

Well, we're really excited about this new plant. It's going to give us the opportunity to deliver on four production lines, initially batteries for 200,000 vehicles. It allowed us, though, with future expansion space, to be able to add at least another six production lines in the future, so that on a combined basis, we can produce for 1.2 million vehicles.

So when we look at a potential site, we're looking at what's the ability of the land, the access to other transportation in and out, and also talent, which is super important when you look at availability of skilled team members and access to future growth. ""

Just as I expected! Toyota will likely build an EV  automobile assembly plant next to the battery plant.

from the Biz Journal

""Kajima Build & Design of Atlanta estimated work on a 489,968-square-foot "office/battery manufacturer" at $65.96 million, according to Randolph County records. The address given is 5938 Julian Airport Road.  KBD did not return messages from Triad Business Journal. Kevin Franklin, president of the Randolph County Economic Development Corp., told TBJ that the work permit was filed for the plant's first building. Franklin said grading on a second pad was underway, and preliminary work has been done on a possible third building pad.  But Franklin said he has not seen any specifics on the second or third building or any total square footage projection for the entire project.  "We never saw any specific square footage in any plans they showed us," Franklin said.""

Toyota just keeps expanding this Toyota plant even before it opens Another $2 BILLION in investment bringing it to $6 Billion.

""Toyota is adding another $2.1 billion in investment to its vehicle battery plant under construction near Greensboro as the company expands its lineup of all-electric vehicles, including a new three-row SUV model, the company announced Wednesday.

The company said it doesn't yet know the effect on employment. It's roughly the same size of expansion Toyota (NYSE: TM) announced last August, which grew job totals by about 350, but company executives said it's too soon to know exactly how the added capacity will be arrayed to know how many more workers will be needed.

The expansion of the Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina plant under construction near Liberty in northern Randolph County brings total investment there to nearly $6 billion. It’s the second expansion since Toyota first announced its plans in December 2021, but also leaves room for even more growth.

Wednesday’s news follows Toyota’s announcement late last August, part of the company’s overall expansion of vehicle electrification worldwide, that it would expand its plans in Liberty by $2.5 million to a total of $3.8 billion, adding 350 jobs to 2,100 in all. Suggs said his unit has hired about 150 so far locally, and expects to be at 700 by year-end, with hires working from a temporary base of nearly 115,000 square feet the company has subleased on Pinecroft Road in Greensboro.
